Mikayla looked at Joshua next to her and took a deep breath before chiming on the Security Chief's door. She was aware that they were a day early but she had been worried if someone was listening in then they would have an unwelcome welcome wagon.

"Come," Devyn was still trying to work out his shifts for the week so he could keep watch over Nyx while she was on duty at the clinic. Rhiannon, her assistant had agreed to work the shifts around his schedule and he didn't want to make it difficult for her either. He looked up as the door opened. Never being one of emotion, he nodded to the pair that walked in. "Joshua, Mikayla - I wasn't expecting you until tomorrow." He gave a quick smile. "You look well."

"SO do you." Mikayla's eyes watered and she swallowed convulsively.

"Please, take a seat. Let me get you something to eat or drink?" He offered. He wasn't sure where to go with them. They'd been his best friend's family years ago but so much time had passed and so many things had changed since those days. They'd lost contact with family so many years ago, changed names, became different people, secretive and sometimes dark. How many secrets? How many lies? He wondered.

Joshua helped Mikayla into a seat and then sat as well "A hot chocolate for Mikayla please ... I'm fine." He couldn't help looking over Devyn and seeing how he'd matured. He also saw a good man and there were hints of when Kell was younger and nodded to himself.

Adam handed Mikayla a hot chocolate after retrieving it from the food slot behind his desk. He then handed a PADD to Joshua. "You'll find the information you're looking for on here." The PADD contained information regarding Cara and where she was on the station, her position, her condition, and even information about her daughter. "All you have to do is key in the security code. Use the nickname you gave her when she was a child. It was the only thing he could think of that nobody but her parents would know.

Typing in the code, the Vulcan word for cat and smiled as he saw a much older daughter staring out at him. Reading through the information on what had happened to his daughter tears welled in his eyes and he became choked up. He knew what Kell must have done to help protect her as well as what Starfleet had forced his daughter to do and it was all he could do not to break down as he turned back to Devyn and Mikayla "We're grandparents ... " He didn't care that Cara hadn't given birth to Jess she was theirs just like he was blood.

Raising his eyes to Kell he said "Thank you son ... I ... there is nothing I can ever do to repay you for what you did for Cara except tell you that you and your family will always have a home with us. If you ever need my help ... let me know as I still have a favor or two owed by Star Fleet." Some of those favours were going to be used to track down the son of a bitch who had hurt his daughter and make him pay.

"Can you ... any chance we can talk to Cara's Fiancee?"

Pointing to the PADD, Devyn smiled. "That will give you all the information you're looking for. Cara and I are fine right now...but we aren't speaking." He shrugged. "My wife has issue with her and I need to take care of Adanyxia...She's expecting and delicate doesn't begin to define her condition." He rolled his eyes.

Joshua looked sideways at his wife of 30 odd years and laughed softly "Son... I feel your pain. Mikayla was less than calm and composed when she was pregnant with Cara." He yelped indignantly as Mikayla whacked him playfully on the arm and gave her a loving look "My best advice is go with it ... Cara will understand and she isn't the one you have to live with for the next 30 years."

"Yes well at least Chameloid's pregnancy doesn't last ten months. We've only got a few weeks left. But it goes deeper than just hormones. There's a trust issue and my closeness to Cara; She's always had to fight for what she had." He shrugged. "She'll come around. She's stubborn but she's great."

"I'm sure she will son ... It takes time to build trust. Did Cara ever mention I had a similar problem with Mikayla and my best friend from school? You just have to let them find their way to a friendship .. it will happen eventually."

"Yes but in this case, Cara went all 'in heat' on me right in front of my very pregnant fiancee. Nyx got mad and ran off just in time to be kidnapped by a lunatic who wanted to cut our baby from her...while she watched." He shuddered thinking again how had almost lost her. "She blames Cara for some of it." He shrugged. "I can't convince her otherwise. She didn't even want her to know about the baby because she doesn't want her claiming the child as family."

Mikayla gasped not having all the information but Joshua just nodded in understanding and passed the PADD to her as he said "Cara would never harm any child ... nor take one from its family. But I can understand Nyx being ... upset ... about her reaction to you. Is ... was that when Cara ended up engaged?" He was trying to piece information together.

"Somewhere in there, yes. It's really a blur to me. I was frantic to find Nyx, seeing her injured and bleeding and knowing how she'd got that way." He shook off the feeling. "You really should talk to Cara. These are personal questions that she should be answering. And Nyx wouldn't appreciate me talking about us with Cara's parents."

"I can imagine ... thank you Kell ... For looking after Cara and being there for her."

"She's my friend. I wouldn't want her out there alone." He smiled. "I'm glad she has someone now and you're here so I'm sure she'll be fine."

Joshua and Mikayla smiled at him "And we'll be here for you too."

Devyn had his own family and now he had Nyx and the baby to take care. He appreciated the offer but knew he'd never go to the man for help. He merely smiled at them and nodded.

"It was good to see you but I should be getting back to work. Nyx will come looking for me if I'm late and that would leave her exposed." he stood to see them out.
