Apologies

Cara sighed as she stood outside the door to medical trying to ignore the marine guard next to her. She had heard that Nyx and Kell were here but didnt know what had happened. It had been 24 hours since the kidnapping and her snuggling up to Kell and she had talked the guard still on her into taking her to medical to apologize to Kell.

The truth was she hated apologizing for screwing up and it seemed to be all she was doing at the moment and that made her irritable but there was no need to take it out on the marine or Kell. Sucking in a breath she walked in the door and looked round.

Rhiannon walked around the corner. "Colonel is everything okay?" She asked. She looked tired and busy.

"Sorry Rhiannon ... I was looking for Commander Kell ... I heard he was here and needed to apologise for my behaviour yesterday ... is his mate okay?"

"Lieutenant Nyx? I wasn't aware they were mates." Rhiannon looked confused. "The lieutenant is doing better physically and should make a full recovery." Rhiannon had been sworn to secrecy by Nyx when she had become her patient so she was careful to keep the information of Nyx's pregnancy to herself. "I'll see if the Commander is willing to come out here."

Cara nodded gratefully "That would be good ... I think I'm the last person Lt Nyx would want to see right now."

"Lieutenant Nyx doesn't wish to see anyone right now except Commander Kell." Rhiannon walked toward the surgery where Nyx was recuperating and sent Kell out. Nyx was asleep so Devyn thought it would be okay to step out for a few minutes. Carefully letting go of her hand, Kell kissed Nyx's forehead and stepped out of the room.

Seeing Cara, he nodded and looked away just for a second. "I can't stay Cara. I can't be out here with you. She needs me and I need to be with her." He looked worn out and shaken.

"I know Kell ... I wont keep you. How is she doing?" Cara was procrastinating yes but she actually did care whther Nyx was okay or not.

"The man is a monster." Kell shook his head. "She would be dead by now if we hadn't found her. But she's going to be okay...we all are." He didn't say anything about the baby. He didn't feel the need to betray Nyx or to make Cara feel worse than she already did. "I've asked her to marry me and she's accepted. I can't hurt her again."

Smiling Cara said "I'm glad Kell ... she's good for you and you're good for her." She sighed "I need to apologise for yesterday ... I love you like my best friend ... I was a little ... out of control."

Devyn shook his head. "Yesterday is already a blur." He touched her cheek. "You're okay, Nyx is going to be okay and I'm sure she'll eventually get over herself and you two will be friends." He rolled his eyes and smiled. "May take a little longer now that you're with Tallus." He shook his head. "He saved her life and she still doesn't trust him. At least not that she'll admit."

Cara leaned into his hand for a second almost as an afterthought "Yeah I can't believe we ended up bonding the way we did. He's a good guy though. I just wanted to let you know I didn't mean to behave the way I did yesterday."

"Already forgotten." Kell smiled. "I've encountered Pon Far before in my travels and recognized it in you."

She smiled gratefully. "Go back to Nyx .... we're going to get him this time and make it stick."

"Unless I get to him first." Kell frowned. "You'll find out soon enough what he did yesterday and I promise you...he won't get past me alive."

Cara nodded "It'll be a group effort ... we need evidence to do it right but we will get him and then you can have first dibs on killing him."

"I won't need any evidence Cara." Devyn looked at her, the anger in his face was evident. "That bastard tried to cut my baby out of my fiancee while she was conscious and could feel everything. His plan was to let her bleed to death watching our aborted child sit on a shelf." He shook his head. If I lay eyes on him, he's a dead man and Klingon honor allows for it."

Cara doubled over as if she had been sucker punched and tried to take in air as her face went white "He ... " She swallowed and then her whole face went cold in anger "I know you dont need the evidence. But I'm not letting you go to jail because he was stupid enough to want to committ suicide by Klingon. By the time he is found I swear we will have enough evidence that they will give you a medal for killing him."

She glanced in at Nyx "He wont get anywhere near her or the baby I swear."

"That isn't necessary. I'm not letting anything near her that's going to hurt her again. I promise you he's a dead man if he so much as thinks about looking at her." He looked at Cara and calmed a moment. "I need to get back in there with her. I promised I wouldn't leave her side and I mean to keep my promise this time."

Nodding Cara made him a promise "The day you go after him Tallus and I will be there to back you up."

"That's appreciated Cara but not necessary. I take care of my own." He appreciated the sentiment but Nyx was his family and he would take care of her and anyone that tried to hurt her or his unborn daughter.

Nodding she gently clapped him on the shoulder and left.
