A Quick Goodbye and Off

533 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: A Fresh Perspective
Location: Kellar Quarters
Timeline: MD 2 1800 hrs

After his meeting with Elliot, Adam hurried to his office. He set his chronometer so he wouldn't be late and hurried to do what he needed to do. He quickly typed the commands into the console in front of him and transferred all the information he’d collected on the Jerichos. He double deleted his files and then reformatted his computer so nobody could find the information, even if they tried. He made sure not to leave any traceable information.

“Computer shut the lights and lock down the office, security protocol, Adam, Delta, seven, one, one, nine.” He grabbed his phaser, holstered it, left the office, and quickly made his way back home.

Jasmine had been waiting for her husband to get home. She was patient, but a little worried and very happy when he walked through the door. He said he’d explain and she hoped he would.

“Is everything okay?” She asked, seeing the worry on his face. She could tell something was wrong. She tried not to ask about work, knowing that as intelligence worker, he couldn’t speak about what he was working on most of the time.

“Not really.” He shook his head. “It’s Meghan Jericho, she’s been removed from the station. It looks as if she’s left her husband, but he’s convinced that she’s been taken. Quite frankly, I’m inclined to believe him.” He moved passed his wife and headed toward their bedroom.

“What are you going to do?” She asked as she followed him. She watched at the door as he packed a quick bag.

“Jazz, I promised I’d help Jericho find his wife.” He put his arm around Jasmine and held her close. “I don’t know how long I’ll be gone, but I’ll check in as much as I can.” He kissed her. “I have to do this.”

“I know.” She said. “I don’t like it, but Leila and I will be fine. We’ll be right here when you get back.” She smiled.

“That’s my girl.” He kissed her deeply before adding another weapon to his bag, securing it tightly and tossing it over his shoulder. “I’ll be home as soon as I can.” He hurried out of the bedroom and sat at his desk for a moment. He entered a few protocols. “I’m amping up the house securities. I don’t think you’ll have any trouble, but I’ll feel better knowing they’re in place. You won’t have to do anything different. Just tell the computer to secure the house, like we always do.” He picked up his daughter and kissed her cheek. Laila giggled at her father’s whiskers.

“We’ll be fine Adam.” Jasmine said as she handed the man what looked like a cloak or wrap. “You just come home safe.” She looked him in the eye so he would know that she was serious.

“Yes ma’am.” He grinned. As he walked away, he swatted her butt. “You behave while I’m gone.”
“I love you.” She called after him.

“I love you more.” He called as he hurried on his way.

A great bit of family interaction. I love the detail of the whiskers tickling Laila. Those are the things that make the story come alive.
