Feeling saner now that Tallus was shoring up her shields with a stronger one of his own Cara decided to search out Sam and apologise to her. She owed her that and more for saving Cara's butt.
Knocking on the door to Sam's new office Cara waited for an invite in.
Samantha was trying to find her office. "Come in." She said not really looking up.
Walking in Cara asked softly "Can I talk to you Sam?"
Samantha looked up when she heard the Major's voice. "oh, yes, ma'am." Samantha stopped what she was doing and came around the desk. "What can I do for you?"
"I uh ... I owe you an apology ... I knwo you've been feeling uncomfortable around me for a while and I'd like to explain if I can?"
Samantha wasn't entirely sure she understood the Major. Samanth had been uncomfortable about the situation, and Sam didn't really like that she was unable to hear the conversations like everyone else in their heads. But uncomfortable.... still she'd listen. "ok.."
Cara bit her lip nervously then swallowed "I uh ... I dont know how much you have picked up about my history ... as the head of intel here you have a right to know anyway as you will come across missions classed Ultraviolet that Dev and I have been on. I was kidnapped and ... altered ... 3 months after I graduated from the academy."
Samantha nodded her head leaning back against her dead. "I hadn't heard." She admitted, not necessarily the truth but if the major wanted to talk Sam was more than willing to listen.
"Its why I could do what I did to help Brian ... but ... I lost control of whatever they did to me and ... Im sorry ... I let it make you uncomfortable because a part of me was feeling territorial over Brian ... I love him ... but the same way i love Dev ... Like a brother ... or a den mate ... I .." Cara looked down waiting for the ridicule or disgust.
Samantha lifted her eyebrow, hell she knew Cara loved Brian. The time pinned down in the belly of the station was permanently stuck in her head. "Cara, thats nothing to be ashamed of." She retorted.
"Sam most people would be accusing me of being a whore and that I lead him on right now." She gave her a greatful look though "Thank you though ... and so you know I consider you the same, as a den mate ... but." She got a cheeky grin "Your safe from amourous advances. Actually Tallus is helping keep whatever lives in my center and that has helped a lot."
Samantha couldn't help but smirk a little. Denmate huh... Still she nodded her head, pushed off the desk and stuck out her hand to shake. "Major, there are far worse things in my book to be called. I'm happy to be considered a friend of yours."
Cara grinned "Call me Cara ... all my friends do."
Sam smirked and nodded. "Cara it is." She offered. "Are you doing all right after that whole situation?"
"Honestly Sam? Not really ... it opened a can of worms mentally that I had been blocking since my own kidnapping."
"Tell me about it..." She offered. Sam wasn't a counselor but her ears worked just fine.
Leaning against the desk Cara started talking "Apparently I have been blocking alot of the changes that were made when I was kidnapped ... Brian being kidnapped started to open the blocks."
Samantha nodded her head. "Sometimes that can happen. You've been exposed to situations you yourself have encountered. It's traumatizing no doubt." She offered. "I didn't realize you'd been kidnapped, Cara. I'm sorry. I know so little about the staff on this station." She admitted. "Did they ever catch who it was?" Obvious Cara had been rescued.
Cara shook her head "We know it was a group linked to Starfleet in a dark way ... but the only person I remember is Alpha ... he was the man running the experiments. Tallus had to pull back from the memories in case he hurt me."
Samantha frowned slightly... a man named Alpha... Cara was kidnapped from starfleet by starfleet?! She'd heard of ops tactics but seriously were they that hard up for volunteers. "and they released you or were you rescued?" Sam frowned and shook her head. "I'm sorry, I'm starting to sound like a cop."
"Its ok ... I was a cop." Cara chuckled "I did time in Strat ops and Security ... and Devyn rescued me ... went all Klingon on their asses ... but the main guys escaped. In return for Fleet letting me remain after the experiments as im now 'subhuman' Dev and I do the occassional job for Intel when they want deniability." Cara knew she sounded a little bitter about being considered sub human but who wouldnt. Wasnt like she had CHOSEN to be experimented on.
Samantha hated the term but knew exactly what Cara meant. Starfleet intelligence used the term a lot it was the starfleet tactical way of saying anything that didn't meet Starfleet standards. Hell, Klingons weren't even subhuman and they stunk! Samantha sighed. "Shows you what starfleet brass shows, you happen to be above average as far as my knowledge of humanity is concerned." She puffed her chest out slightly. "And I happen to be a bit of an expert."
It was a joke of course, but she wanted to try to make Cara laugh a little.
Cara laughed at that "Thanks Sam ... I needed that. It's too easy to start feeling sorry for yourself ... and it doesnt help the situation much."
She couldn't help but smirk. This station definitely had potential... she hadn't been here very long and already had more friends then she'd ever had on any other assignment. "I can open an investigation if ya want me to and try to work on the cold case."
"There's not much point ... Fleet will just shut you down. That isnt to say that a group of us working on the problem under the radar wouldnt mind your input though."
Samantha nodded. "I'll see what I can dig up... in the sake of research."
"Thanks Sam ... and I apologise in advance if I get out of control at any time... It wont be deliberate."
Sam smirked. "Just so I know what I'm looking for, what is "out of control" exactly?"
"Growling and attacking things according to Dev ... He said I was feral for nearly 2 weeks after he rescued me."
For a moment Sam flashed back to their first encounter, she had growled and attacked the men in the corridor. It reminded her of Tarzan from the book she'd read as a kid. She nodded her head. "Well just so you know if you do wig out a bit on me I'll try my best to restrain you without hurting either of us." She offered. "Deal?"
"Deal ... Dev has a few techniques he has found work if you want to ask him."
She smirked and nodded. "I might just do that."
Cara grinned back "Hey maybe we should get together with Nyx and have a girls night some time this week?"
Samantha couldn't help but grimace. "Girls night really not my thing."
Snickering Cara said "Trust me ... this wouldnt be your nail polish and chat about boys ... I was thinking more like horror movies or paintballing."
Samantha shook her head. "I'm gonna have to take a rain check." She offered politely. "Groups, are uncomfortable enough..." She admitted. "I like spending my off time alone for now."
"No problem Sam." Cara smiled "I have trouble around too many people too."
Samantha smirked. "Thanks for understanding, Major." Samantha's eyes widened some. "I mean Cara, that's gonna take some getting used to."
Cara chuckled "No problem Sam."
