Location: Security Office
ON:
Adam sat in his office reading over the daily reports and glanced at his door.
He pushed the comms button, "Captain Teague to Lieutenant O'Dell, please report to my office at your earliest convenience."
Samantha was in her quarters making things look as homey as they could, although she carried very little with her. The transport had just dropped stuff off and she wasn't really the sort to expect a long stay. Samantha just never seemed to stay anywhere long even as a child. Captain Teague voice came over her combadge and she put down what she'd had in her hands. Touching her comabdge on her chest. "On my way, sir."
Samantha put down her effects and headed for the security station. She saw a few security crewmen moving around none of them really gave her much of a sideways glance or even a straight forward glance. Samantha chimed the door once she was out side the chief of securities office and then stepped inside having already been told to report she didn't think she needed to wait.
"Ltjg Samantha O'Dell reporting as ordered, sir."
Adam nodded and motioned for her to sit, "Take a seat Lieutenant. I was just going over your Personnel File. How long have you been on station?"
Samantha sat down and crossed her ankles. "less than 24 hours, sir." She admitted. "And I know I'm supposed to report to you right away." She admitted. "But my leave from my last duty assignment isn't offically over until tomorrow, so I was just getting familiar with the station."
Adam nodded slowly and rechecked the PADD with the Lieutenant's personnel file and noted that she wasn't due on duty until tomorrow.
"No need to worry Lieutenant. I'm glad to have you on board. What are your thoughts on the station so far?"
Samantha smirked and nodded her head. "It's an impressive station, sir." She admitted having never been on a starbase or station. "It's easy to get lost." She added. "I admit I've only actually met formally one person." She shrugged her shoulders. "Well two now, sir."
Adam nodded, "What was your last posting?"
Samantha frowned only slightly, she'd not been the captain or the chief of securities favorite person on the ship. "The Cannus, sir." She offered. " A Renaissance class, ship." Samantha took in a deep breath. "Not my best work, I admit." She offered. It was undoubtedly all in her service record. Disobeying orders, disobeying direct orders right beside how many times she'd been in medical. In small print there was also two accommodation for services exemplary for a security officer. And how her last promotion had been denied due to her misbehavior on the Cannus. Samantha was a spit fire, that was for sure.
Adam nodded, "Alright, I'll get down to the brass tacks. I came up through the ranks as an Enlisted man, then I entered into the Academy after the Dominion War. I expect the very best of my department, that means YOU need to learn the rules and learn to play by them. I will not hesitate to knock you on your ass, But I WILL NEVER ask you to do ANYTHING that I , myself would not do."
Adam stopped there and waited to see her reaction to his statement.
Samantha was expressionless, she loved playing poker and the unreadable face helped when she was otherwise emotionally compromised, or so a friend of hers has called it. Sam thought she was pissed off, emotionally compromised sounded better. "Learning the rules is never difficult, sir." She offered. "And I follow them to the letter of the law, unless someone orders something that goes against my moral judgement." She felt it boiling up inside her. Where she wanted to tell him why she'd been written up and what those horrid orders had been. But she was a jg and as her former captain had said to her no one will listen to a jg, Samantha had heard that voice a zillion times in her head. "when and if that time comes, we'll see who gets knocked on their ass, with all due respect."
Sam had a filter... at least that's what she called it. A voice inside that said don't do that, don't say that. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. At the moment, the filter wasn't working.
Adam chuckled, "Good. Now that we've gotten that out of the way. Do you have anything to add, anything you want to talk about or anything that you want to clarify on your record?"
That was a first, she had to admit no one had ever asked her to clarify her record. She sat there for a moment weighing whether or not to tell him about the Cannus, would it really make a difference to tell him? He couldn't change her record and she wasn't the complaining sort. The only real way to prove it was bullshit was to show it. Samantha felt a small smile in the corner of her lip. "Nope," Samantha settled on her decision. "Looking forward to working on the station, sir."
Adam nodded slightly, he understood why she wouldn't want to talk about her past demerits, and he respected that, but he also knew she would try her damndest to show him she was up to the tasks that he would give her.
"Very well, report to the duty officer for check in tomorrow at 0900 hours."
As she stood he looked at her, "Dismissed."
Samantha stood up, saluted letting it snap to and then excused herself.
