Forced Containment

Nyx paced her 'new quarters' like a caged animal which was appropriate because that was exactly how she felt. She was furious with everyone; herself because she'd allowed herself to be put in this predicament and had agreed to the terms, Karikkar because he now had control. What he'd do with it, Nyx had no idea and that scared her. She was mad at Devyn because he'd promised to do everything he could to avoid leaving her here alone. She blamed Drake for calling Devyn to duty and away from her on her off shift. She was still furious with Cara. If she hadn't been there, Dobson lurking about wouldn't have meant anything to anyone. She would have recognized him, steered clear, and the man could have just come and gone...

Opening the entrance to her quarters, Nyx looked out over the barracks. Just as Karikkar had promised, she could traverse the barracks at her leisure but the doors that opened to the station were on lock down to her and so much for any type of leisurely stroll, the 1st lieutenant assigned as her 'escort' was right there at the ready to accompany her on any traversing that she did.

"Something I can get for you ma'am?" The officer was pleasant enough.

"NO," Nyx let the door close abruptly between them.

There was a knock on the door.

Letting the door slide open again, Nyx met the man face to face. "I said I didn't need anything!" She barked as she saw who was standing there however, she lowered her voice and let the contempt back in. "Oh, it's you." She knew she couldn't keep the man from her quarters so she turned to head for a seat. "Come to chastise? Have I hurt your Lieutenant's feelings?"

"As much as you may wish it, my Marine's are made of sterner stuff then that." Tallus said sighing. "You do realize that this is for you own protection. I am not doing this to harm you."

"I have no doubt that you don't mean to harm me." Nyx shook her head. "But I'm sure you're pleased to have your pet right at your door step." Pacing in front of the man, she stopped. "But I'm sure you didn't come here for my benefit, so what can I help you with?"

Tallus just shook his head. Eventually she would learn that he did not mean her to hate him. "A few of my Marine's were in combat training and they thought that you might want to stretch your legs. It's nothing eccentric but it is helpful to keep the body in shape." Tallus said looking at Nyx. "Oh, and I'll be on the opposing team." Tallus said letting the door slide shut behind him.

Nyx watched the door close behind him and stood there for a moment. "What the hell." She growled before heading to change into her uniform. She grabbed a utility belt and headed out the door.

"Ma'am did you need something?" The young lieutenant was there the minute the door opened.

Nyx sighed. "Karikkar invited me to a sparring session. I'd like to go...and I'm about six minutes older than you so quit calling me ma'am."

"Sorry, It's been drilled in to me." The man smiled. "Come on, I"ll show you the way." He escorted her to the training area. It felt good to be out of that room but she still felt like a prisoner.

Opening the door, Nyx saw five men already beginning their exercises. One of them was Karikkar. She watched for a moment waiting for her opportunity to join in.

Tallus looked over to see the Lieutenant. "Alright people lets get going. My team will be the red team. Lieutenant Contrave's team will be the blue. Standard rules. Move out." Tallus said going to the red side. 'Computer produce a standard obstacle course.' Tallus ordered the computer as it did as he requested. "Begin!" He called out as his troupe moved in opposite directions.

Nyx saw the course in front of her and smiled. She figured it was a way for Karikkar to test her endurance and her agility and she was more than willing to show off her skill. The first level seemed appropriately difficult for beginning troops and much like one she'd been through several times during her 'training' with the marines as their pet on the other starbases she'd served on. She followed the blue team an arched brow in Karikkar's direction to let him know she wasn't afraid of his challenge. She looked over the course and decided it was relatively safe even in her condition.

Tallus smiled at the way that Nyx carried herself. She had been taught well. Even if it had been illegitimate training. Tallus saw Sergeant Ayala running by so he jumped on top of him knocking him unconscious and dragging him to the bushes. He moved to the side and awaited the next Marine to cross his path.

Noting that Tallus and the others of the red team were ambushing her team, Nyx let her animal senses take over. She managed to by pass the other team and make it to the wall. In her over confidence however, she slipped on the wall and came down hard on the horizon. Determined to finish the course, she ignored the pain and made it to the rope bridge.

Unable to concentrate on anything other than the pain in her side and running the course, Nyx soon fell victim to Karikkar's ambush.

Tallus saw Nyx coming and as soon as he could he jumped out to grab her. He stopped at the last moment as he read the pain in Nyx. Immediately out of instinct he read through her mind on a basic level as he reared back in surprise. 'Computer terminate program.' Tallus ordered as the simulation ended.

"Lieutenant Adanyxia follow me now. Lieutenant Contrave, I want you to continue the training." Tallus said as he led the way straight out of the holobay.

"Where are you taking me?" Nyx called after the man as she followed behind him her arm against her side trying to alleviate the pain in her ribs.

Once they were out of ear range of every Marine Tallus turned on Nyx with a furious look on his face. Startling to see on the Vulcan's kind face. "Lieutenant Adanyxia, are you idiotic? What is the matter with you?"

Nyx took a step back. She'd never seen a Vulcan lose his temper and Tallus of all people had always had the stern stone face of a Vulcan council member. For him to lose his temper, she figured she'd broken some protocol that he held dear. It almost made her grin. "I believe I may have fractured a rib but I assure you, I won't blame you for it."

That just angered Tallus even more. "I read you. I sensed more then one mind within your body." Tallus said looking cold.

Nyx's eyes widened. "You...you had no right to read me." She knew that wasnt' the point right now. "No one knows but Drake and Kell..." She couldn't even put on her angry, indignant facade. "I'm nearly twenty weeks."

"I sensed your pain and I wanted to asses how bad it was. You are a medical officer. What are the danger of a rib fracture for a baby?" Tallus said still furious.

"A rib fracture won't harm the fetus unless the baby is high up, or the fracture is compound and displaced. Meaning if the bone is broken through, there is always a risk of a perforation of the uterus which could cause a miscarriage."

"And if that wound had been lower. Or worse then you had thought?" Tallus said frowning.

"Any injury could potentially harm my baby...but I was angry and I needed to blow off steam. You bring that out in me." He was not going to make her feel guilty. She was sure Devyn would be more than willing to do that for both of them. Making a move to side track the man, she caught her breath. "I - I should probably go to sick bay." She bit her lip knowing she deserved whatever he said to her.

Tallus looked at the chronometer. "Indeed. But just know that I am putting you on report. As a medical officer you should be more responsible. You are expected to perform above that of those under your command. If I hear that you do something foolish to harm another life again then I will use all my power to make sure that you have to step down as the Chief Medical Officer." Tallus said looking at her sternly. "Do I make myself understood."

"Yes sir." She hated this man especially right now, especially because he was right.

"Dismissed." Tallus said angrily.
