AND NOW, THE CONTINUATION

ON:

As Lee had promised, an hour had passed and it looked like the crews were nearly finished with their excavation work. Drake and Graves and remained present at the scene, joined by a security details moments after they had called for them. Drake had also summoned Treia down to the depths of the base.

Walking up to stand by Drake Cara nodded to him recieving a nod in return.

"How are we doing, Lieutenant?" Drake asked the Ops Officer, as he turned round.

"I think we are ready to take down the dampening field," Xavier said as he wiped his brow. He looked over to Fisher who had rejoined them after making sure Drekk was going to be okay. Fisher nodded at Lee to confirm what he had just told the Colonel and then continued to calibrate the fusion disruptors they were using for the task. "It's all about finding the correct harmonic for the field and then overloading it in a controlled and safe way. I should tell you without knowing what's on the other side, we could do a lot of damage to this section of the station," Lee warned his commanding officer.

"Lieutenant" Drake looked the at the only slight younger officer, in the eyes "you have my full permission to cause as much damage as is necessary".

Once again, Drake was experiencing the same emotions as the previous day. A mixture of anger and trepidation. Anger at the fact that someone had tried to hide something from him, in his own station. Trepidation at the fact of what would be worth hiding... and why was it hidden?

"Erect force fields, in case there's any hazardous materials present. Let's do it" Drake wasn't sure whether that last order was teaching Lee how to suck eggs... he hoped it wouldn't be taken that way. He only just thought of it himself!

Xavier nodded at his commanding officer. He could sense Drake's anxiety and felt it echoed his own. He walked over to Fisher who seemed more excited than anyone present on the deck. "Right, just as we discussed," Lee said.

Matt nodded and used his tricorder to activate the force field that would protect everyone once the dampening field was deactivated. The pair spent at least five minutes calibrating and then recalibrating until they were sure they could do the task at hand. Eventually when Xavier was certain they were ready to begin, he looked Drake in the eye and nodded his head slightly, this was it. The equipment started to hum, subtly at first but then grew louder and louder until it was a very audible buzz. After a minute or so of this, the conduit around the bulkhead gave out and exploded in a shower of sparks and smoke. Xavier and Matt shielded their eyes unnecessarily as the force field protected them as it was meant to.

"Lower the force field," Xavier said to Fisher who complied instantly. Smoke filled their section of the deck but was quickly cleared by the environmental control systems. Once it had gone it didn't take the two Ops officers to notice that the bulkhead had gone and was now replaced by a set heavy doors like the ones used for the holodeck or cargo bay on most Federation facilities. Xavier flipped open his tricorder to confirm what his eyes were already trying to tell him. "Sir, the dampening field is deactivated and you might want to see this," he said to Drake who was a little further down the corridor with the other senior staff and security detail.

Drake cautiously walked towards Lee, as he got closer the dust and smoke seemed to settle down - in actuality in was probably just thinning out. As he came next to the officer the large doors were revealed.

"Are you detecting any anomalous readings?" He suddenly realised how stupid the question would sound taken out of context; the whole situation was anomalous.

"No, sir" he responded, almost instantaneously.

Drake nodded at the response and slowly took a few steps towards the door. He was experiencing so many emotions that they all seemed to merge into one. He was nervous about what could be on the other side, but he was also excited. He was angry that this had been hidden from them, but also curious to see what was worth hiding.

He tapped the dust covered door control to his left and waited. Over a second or two passed before the doors responded to the instruction. Slowly he moved his line of sight, the only light streaming in from the corridor. He wasn't sure how to approach what he saw next... or even believe what he was seeing.

Cara looked over his shoulder and shuddered before moving over to a disused side where she was sick, her stomach heaving even after it was empty and her whole body shaking and shuddering in horror.

He turned to Lieutenant Lee who was at such an angle that he probably couldn't fully see into the room yet.

"Lieutenant, this place has just become a Level 5 security and quarantine zone... Senior Staff's authorisation only. I want triple security on this deck and a squad of Marines posted outside the door with level 10 security forcefields erected around everything. Get Doctor's Nyx and Nightingale down here, immediately."

Shivers went down his neck as he forced himself to turn, once again, into Section 49 Alpha
