Location: USS Coldstream Runabout
Timeline: MD-02: 1503 Hours
ON:
"This is the USS Coldstream to USS Bretagne... come in, Bretagne" This was now the third time Drake had tried hailing the ship, which was adrift less than a thousand kilometres ahead of them now.
"Sir, sensors are reading absolutely no power sources coming from the ship. However, I still can't give you an accurate reading on life signs... with no power, though..." Meadows gave Drake a confusing look. Of course, without any power, how could there be life on board the ship? There was just something eerie about not being able to confirm that with sensor readings.
Drake returned to his console that he had been studying for the last ten minutes, which showed the schematics for the old Excelsior class. There was really only one way to do this.
"With no power, we're going to have to dock directly onto an outer jeffries tube hatch. It shouldn't be too risky... the ship is adrift, and there is minimal inertia. My only concern would be if it drifts back into the expanse again." He made his statement without looking away from his console, pinpointing exactly which port would be best to use.
"What temperature is the interior of the Bretagne--if the sensors can read that?" Paul asked. By all logic, he thought, it ought to be as cold as the void of space outside it. But..."If the hull and insulation are still intact, it might be possible to calculate how long it's been since the ship lost power," Paul said. "That could tell us if there's a possibility that anyone can be saved. If there is, and if they put on environment suits before power was lost completely, we might be able to effect a rescue."
Ahead of the relatively tiny Danube Class Runabout drifted the almighty Excelsior Class, USS Bretagne. From what they see main power was offline - there were no lights on, engines seemed offline and the ship was drifting aimlessly.
"Full stop" Drake ordered.
"Full stop, aye sir. commencing short range scans." Meadows replied.
Graves had moved back to the aft section about ten minutes ago to begin preparing their kits. A few moments passed before the crewman continued.
"As we suspected, sir. Main power is offline..." he paused and glanced at Ashton "sir, I'm still not picking up any life signs".
Ashton simply nodded at the statement - a statement which spoke volumes.
"The decay rate on the hull is normal." he continued as he pored over heis instruments. "It looks as though their deflector array has been inactive for some time now. I'm also getting some strange readings from the primary hull..." he tailed off, making several adjustments to the sensors before shaking his head. "Radiation from the Expanse is making it difficult to get accurate readings."
Ashton rose from his chair and prepared to join Graves in the back to get suited up. "It is possible to transport?" He asked.
"It's possible," Meadows answered very matter-of-factly, "but definitely not advisable." He turned in her chair to face Drake. "I would suggest accuracy of the targeting scanners are compromised by around thirty per-cent." He tilted his head slightly to one side and smiled out of one side of his mouth. "That's a lot to miss by, sir..."
"Very well, commence docking procedures." He said as he disappeared towards the aft section.
