Mission: http://sb109.sim-station.net/index.php/sim/missions/id/2
Location: Giellun's Quarters

It had been a very long day indeed. Whatever the Doctor had given Xavier had long since worn off and he was feeling very tired and very, very sorry for himself. All he wanted to do was head to his quarters, replicate something quick and simple and dive into bed. This all sounded great and would have been an option if it wasn't for the fact he had some apologising to do. He considered putting off visiting Giellun until the following day but he knew he couldn't do that. If someone had thrown up on Xavier the way he had on Giellun then he would have wanted more than an apology and definitely no more than twenty-four hours after the incident. Maybe Giellun would want more than an apology? Maybe there was some things that you just couldn't make up for?

Xavier shook his head in disdain. The first time he had seen Giellun in as many years and he was drinking by himself, bitching about his new boss and then turned abusive. It was a pretty bad night and that's not even including all the sick, which is obviously enough to put anyone off sexually. Way to make a second-first-impression he thought to himself.

Xavier was just planning how he was going to do this when he realised he was standing outside of Giellun's quarters. After taking a deep breath, he pressed the button that would sound the chime inside of the room.

Gielun was going over some reports and his desk had numerous PAdDs stacked seemingly haphazardly on top of each other. He was usaully a tidy person, some exs had accused him of being almost obsessively so, but when it came to his desk that was an entirely different matter.

Seeing that he was off duty he was dressed in white board shorts and a teal t-shirt. After all he wasn't expecting any visitors.

When the chime sounded he went to the door to open it himself. He never had liked just yelling out "Come in." It just seemed rude to him.

When he opened the door he found himself looking, staring perhaps, at his old friend who looked much more sober than he had in the wee hours of the morning.

"Should I duck now?" he asked with his signature wise-ass smile.

Xavier hadn't expected the door to open, more to be invited in to the Half Romulan's quarters. He was taken back a little and possibly flinched, expecting Giellun to pay him in kind for his antics earlier that day. When that didn't happen he relaxed a little, him too smiling to match that of his friend's.

Xavier had always liked Giellun but when they had known each other at the Academy he was getting over a rather bad break up. Giellun had been a nice distraction, a way to heal the wound that Xavier's first love had left behind. The two had moved past romance and become friends, but he was hoping, after all of these years, that he could change that, set right what should have been done years ago. Xavier couldn't fully remember the details from their conversation earlier but he hoped that Gil was still available and hoped that he could find the nerve to ask out someone he cared about deeply. But changing a friendship into a romantic relationship was a tricky and difficult scenario. Luckily, Xavier was a highly skilled telepath and he would use that to his advantage.

"Only if I plan on throwing this bottle at you," Xavier replied. He indicated the bottle of blue liquid he was carrying. "This is for you, it from my personal stores. I'm told it's a good vintage but I suppose you're more of an expert than I am." Xavier handed over the bottle of Romulan Ale to Giellun. "It's a peace offering, and yes I do see the irony in giving you alcohol considering what I'm apologising for."

Giellun's smile turned from smartass to something else entirely as he took the bottle and stepped aside so Xavier could enter. Xavier was defintely easy on the eyes and no doubt had been a disappointment to a number of girls who were unaware of which team he played on.

But that wasn't what Gilleun found fascinating about him what drew him to the other man, at least that wasn't the main reason. He was genuinely a nice guy.

"Thanks, your peace offering is accepted under one condtion. Have dinner with me. My replicator hasn't been working too well of late, but there are some good restruants around here. I was going to go down to Harveys as soon as I finished this work. I'd love to have you join me."

Xavier didn't enter the quarters, but instead smiled at the man in front of him. "Dinner was going to be my idea. But since you offered, how's about I meet you there in half an hour? It's been a long day and there's a sonic shower with my name on it."

"Sure, sounds like a good idea. I'll meet you there in thirty. I just need to finish this report and change." Gilleun was going to add it would be fun to see him taking a sonic shower, but figured that would be pushing it even for him.

Xavier smiled at Giellun's stray thought but didn't say anything. Instead he just turned and maybe his way back to the turbolift. "Seeya in a bit then," he said casually as he disappeared from view.

[45 Minutes Later]

Xavier was running late. He had got lost, again and then when he finally managed to find his way to the Promenade it took him longer than he had expected to find Harvey's. He had asked several people but their directions were more confusing than the directories that were scattered all over the place. Eventually Xavier found the place and breathed a sigh of relief. He didn't want to apologise again, he only had a couple of bottles of Romulan Ale left.

Xavier spotted Giellun sitting at one of the small tables and made his way over. "This place is too huge, give me a starship any day."

"Yeah tell me about it," he said with a sweeping hand gesture offering Xavier a seat. "Take a load off old friend, I've taken the liberty of ordering us and appetizer, fried onion strings, they are relly good here. And the beers are the best, they're the real thing not synthehol or replicated, but you can drink whatever you want."

"Oh can I? Really?" Xavier asked sarcastically as he sat down. He helped himself to some of the onion strings as he studied the drinks menu. When the waiter appeared he ordered himself a cloudy lemonade; he thought it best not to drink alcohol a second night in a row, he was sure Giellun didn't want a repeat performance. "So how have you been?"

"I've been good, thanks," he replied taking another bite of the appitizer. "Just trying to get used to this new assignment. I think I would rather be on a Starship where we are going to where the action is rather than waiting to have the action come to us. But Star Fleet didn't really consult me."

Xavier shook his head in disagreement. "This is the perfect assignment for me. Look around this hell hole. I get to take this out-dated, dilapidated station and bring it into the 24th century. It's like the ideal assignment, plus you're here."

"I am glad to see you too, its good to have a friend aboard. Otherwise it could get rather lonley. By the way do you remember anything that happened last night other than your tossing your cookies all over MY usniform?"

"Not much," Xavier said as he hung his head in shame. "Though I do remember you being your usual flirty self."

"Well I've changed a little since the Academy. I'm really tired of one night stands and I asked if you wanted to date. See where things might lead."

Xavier looked at Gil for a few seconds before he replied. "I thought I was meant to be the drunken one? After all of these years you still want to date me?"

Giellun swallowed his mouth suddenly dry for no real reason,"I guess I haven't changed THAT much. I do enjoy flirting.... But seriously yeah I would like to date you. I want to see if we we have can become more than a friendship. Are you open to that?"

Xavier considered Giellun for a moment or two. There was no doubt that he liked the pointy-eared man, but the question was could the two of them make it as a couple. "Okay, let's go for it," Xavier said as he decided to throw caution to the wind. "I must still be drunk," he said with a grin.

"Cool man," said Giellun using a human phrase, "So I guess that would make this our first official date, Did you just want to have dinner or did you want to do something afterwards."

Xavier looked into Giellun's violet eyes and couldn't help but wonder if the man intentionally liked to wind him up or if he was just wired that way. He knew he could pry into the man's mind but where was the fun in that. This thought made the Betazoid smile despite himself. What ever was to happen with Giellun, whether a long meaningful relationship or a short fling, he knew that he was going to have fun. Giellun intrigued him the way no other man ever had before, not that he was likely to admit this anytime soon.

"You really don't like going with the flow do you?" Xavier asked half seriously. "Who says Romulans are the party poopers of the galaxy?" He added with a smirk.

Giellun looked at him a bit confused, before the light dawned, or at least he thought it did. He wished he could read other people's minds the way Xavier could it would make things easier, "I just meant did you want to got to the holodeck, or go for drinks, or something like that. I didn't mean do something naughty. I wasn't sure if you were going to have any time. That's all."

That wasn't exactly what Xavier thought Giellun had on his mind, however he quickly managed to save face and make sense of his own comment previously. "Yes I know, I am a telepath you know? I just meant let's see what happens after dinner, you're always so quick to rush to the next stage, of the night, or the conversation, or the relationship." Xavier was a free spirit. He felt that his professional life was so planned and organised, there was no need for his personal life to be the same too. He just liked to go with what ever happens, making the most of each situation as they came along.

"Sure, I think I can do that. If I get to detailed or making plans, or getting ahead of myself, just slap be upside the head. Anyway why don't we just finish dinner and let things happen as they happen. No expectations and no boundaries. How about that?"

Xavier smiled. "That sounds like a plan. And I don't know about hitting you, but I'd be happy to throw up on you again," he added with a smirk.

"Hey as long as you want to lick the chunks of off my naked body, feel free."

Xavier gagged a little. "Too far Gil, way way too far."

"Sorry," Geillun replied, "I guess that was a little over the top, but you did talk about thowing up on me, but I don't want to argue, especially about something stupid, why don't we just change the subject?"

"So I did," Xavier said. "Well why don't you tell me what you're going to order, maybe that way I can make up my mind."

"Enchiladas with rice and beans, chips and salsa and a beer

As if by magic the waiter turned up at this point ready to take their order. Xavier repeated Giellun's order whilst thinking what to have himself. "...and I'll have a steak, medium-rare, with a jacket and a side salad." Xavier watched as the waiter disappeared and then turned his focus back to Giellun. "So what made you come out to the middle of no-where on a dilapidated station like this one?"

"Orders primarily, not sure if it was punishment ot just Star Fleet's attempt at stand-up comedy. How about you?"

Xavier grinned. "Believe it or not I requested this assignment." Xavier knew not many people would believe that. Who in their right mind would want to be here on a station that was being held together by force of will and hope? "There was a position open where I could advance my career and the idea of taking a station in this condition and bringing it into the 24th Century is every engineer's dream. I just hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew."

"Listen Xav, there is one thing I know about you, all joiking aside. There is nothing you can't handle. You are an excellent engineer and not a bad person either."

"Thank you," Xavier said sincerely. "That means a lot coming from you."

"You're welcome my friend, Giellun answered as their food arrived, "I hope they made it extra spicy, I do like my food hot."

As the two of them tucked into their meals there wasn't much talking. Xavier hadn't realised how hungry he was until the food was in front of him and then just as quickly not. Giellun was right, the food here was great and the service even better, he couldn't think of a better place for them to spend their first official date. Finally Xavier threw down his knife and folk on a now empty plate and swallowed the last of his drink from his now empty glass. He pushed his chair back a little allowing his slightly expanded stomach more room to get comfortable.

"That was amazing," he said as he wiped his mouth on the napkin. "Best steak I've had in a long time. I think you may have some competition with the chef here," Xavier said. He had always loved Giellun's cooking and was one of the many things he had missed when the half Romulan had graduated the academy.

"Yeah, he is good. I havent had the steak yet, but I think that's next on my list to try. You ate it fast enough. Do you want to take a walk of just sit here for awhile?"

Xavier wanted to stretch his legs but his body felt really heavy and unresponsive. "Let's sit for a while, it's been a long few days. So what have you got planned for date number two?"

"I was thinking either a horseback ride followed by an afternoon on the beach or sometime hiking in the mountains. What would you like?"

"I'm not sure about horseback riding, but something like mountain hiking could be quite fun," Xavier said thinking of the challenges it would provide. "I wouldn't mind snowboarding or skiing, I've never done either and I think that would be great too."

"How about this then," Giellun suggested, why don't we take a short hike to a little inn, grab a nice micro-brew beer, then ski down the the other side of the mounatin. I've never skied before either, well only once but that was when I was a teenager. We'll have fun and if we break something mayb we'll wind up in the same bed together."

He gave the Betazoid an evil grin, "I'll promise not to try to break something if you do."

Xavier smiled, "I make no such promise." Xavier then signalled the waiter who came promptly with a PADD in his hand. A quick mind intrution told Xavier that Giellun didn't want a dessert and so he entered his code on the PADD to transfer the neccesary Federation credits from his account into that of the establishment. Xavier nodded to the waiter who left them to finish the rest of their drinks in peace.

"Dinner's on me, considering last night it was on you...literally." Xavier said with a smirk.

"Well thanks Xavier, I do have to admit it was pretty gross, butyou can consider your debt paid in full. But if you break someting don't expect me to kiss your boo-boo and make it better, unless you make it worth my while or you break something really interesting."

Xavier laughed. "Only you could equate breaking something into something sexual." Xavier finished off the rest of his drink as he subtly pushed his chair away from the table. "I'm afraid I'm going to have to call it a night, as you can imagine I didn't get much sleep."

"You know me too well Xav. So when do you want to meet up again? I promise to be on my best behavior."

"Not too good?" Xavier said cheekily. "I'll leave our next meet up to you, I liked to be chased. I'll even let you walk me back to my quarters." Xavier added.

Giellun smiled impishly. Well then by all means, at least you know where it is today, that in itself is an improvement."

Giellun started towards the nearest turbo-lift, "Let's just hope we don't get stuck, these things aren't the most reliable you know."

Xavier blushed. "My first day on a new station, I think I'm allowed to get a little lost, besides the computer was very helpful I seem to remember." As the stepped into the lift Xavier gave it its instructions. "It's lucky you have Starfleet's finest Operations officer in here with you, I can fix anything."

"Not only the best, but also the most humble," Giellun said with raised brow.

He waitd for Xavier to enter then followed him inside, "So if I am chasing, how easy are you going to be to catch?"

Xavier looked into Giellun's eyes. He had always loved the colour of them, so unique, so deep. "Isn't that part of the fun, not knowing?" As he said this he had a playful smile etched on his face, as if he were up to something.

Giellun resisted the urge to steal a kiss from Xavier. He had been wanting to do so for a long time, but he didn't want to press his luck just at the moment.

"That's what I like about you Xav, always unpredictable. I'm trying to plan things 20 years in advance and you, well you not so much. I think you skipped that Planning 101 course at the Academy."

"Things don't always go according to plan," Xavier said with a hint of seriousness in his voice, "so why make them? Anyways, our professional lives are so structured and regimented, we don't want our personal lives to be the same." He added, the lightness back in his tone. He leaned closer towards Giellun as if he were about to kiss the Romulan, when the turbolift jolted to a stop and the doors slid open. Xavier smiled playfully and exited the lift with a mini-bounce in his step.

Giellun followed close behind Xavier a devioius little plan playing out in his head. His old friend could be unpredictable, impetoues even and Giellun liked that about him a lot. They were opposites that department at least most of the time, but Giellun was good at thinking on his feet and improvising when there was a need and there was defintetly a need now.

"So, you still owe me a holo-deck excursion don't forget," he said as they approached Xavier'squarters. Do you mind if I come in for a few minutes?" he asked with as much innocence as he could muster.

Xavier looked at Giellun questioningly. He knew the Romulan was up to something but he didn't want to pry, after all it was more fun this way. "Okay," he finally said, "but not for long."

After the doors had slid shut, Giellun gave him a sny look, then glanced down at his feet before shifting his glance back up to the other man's face.

"You know, we talked about taking things slowly?" he asked, "Well, I really think that is the best thing to do... you know... Take it easy get to know each other and..." He stopped in mid-sentance and brought his arms up from by his side. He grabbed Xavier's shoulders and pushed him back against the wall and pressing his lips hard against Xavier's.

Xavier fought the kiss at first, for a microsecond, and then he fell into it. As their lips locked, Xavier couldn't help but think how natural this felt, comfortable. they had never kissed before but it felt like they had, as if though the pair had been kissing for years. The chemistry was there and that was one thing Xavier couldn't deny. 'So much for taking it slow' he thought to himself.

~And you say I'm unpredictable~ Xavier thought aloud straight into Giellun's head.

Gielluun hadn't been sure what to expect when he kissed Xavier, it had just been an implusive thing at first, but the longer they held the kiss the less implusive and the more intense the feeling it brought out in him.

Though he was not a telepath, he thought back as best he could. ~I didn't see you complaining too much. I can be a little like you Xav.

So we just going to keep kissing or do we take it to the next level?~ Geillun would have been satisfied with just kissing, after all thy had talked about going slow, but he wanted to show Xavier he could be unpredictable too and besides, the kiss had the blood rushing to all the right body parts, so he was more than willing to take things further.

Xavier's hands rose to Giellun's chest and gently but firmly pushed him away. In fact he didn't stop pushing Giellun until he was on the other side of the door that led to the outside of his quarters.

"And you was doing so well Gil," Xavier said playfully but with an edge. "I know you have no idea what you did wrong but once you do figure it out come and find me and we'll try again. Goodnight." Xavier ended his little speech with a wink and before Giellun could say another word he retreated into his quarters to find his new best friend; his bed.

Giellun cursed in Romulan as the door slid shut behind him. He had a pretty good idea of how he had screwed things up. He had pushed just a bit too far. He turned on his heel and walked back down the hall to the turbo-lift and his own cabin.
