Jade waited for a response to her hail, and it was quick in coming.

"Affirmative, I'll contact Captain Teague." The voice replied, "In the meantime, I'll have Lieutenant Kell report to take preliminary reports and findings."

Adam had been sleeping pretty well before his combadge chirped, and then the internal intercom system chirped, multiple times. He slowly rose out of bed and pushed the intercom button, "What the hell is it. There had better be a good reason why you are waking me up at 0100 in the blasted morning."

"Ah... sorry sir, but there is a report of a dead body."

"Where?" Adam asked, calming down.

"The Orchids and Jazz club, deck 400."

"I'll be there in ten, get Lieutenant Kell there ASAP."

"Already on his way sir."

"Good. Captain Teague out." Adam said as he sat down on his bed.

He let out a sigh and rubbed his head. He hadn't been on station for long and already there was a murder. He pulled his uniform on and headed out towards the club.

Leaning over the balcony wall, and surveying the first floor of her club, Jade waited for the arrival of Lieutenant Kell or the Chief of Security, wondering which one would arrive first. On the outside, she appeared calm, but her mind raced. There was a sense of dread deep inside her at the loss of a life, and that it had happened in her club. She couldn't recall seeing the man come in, but maybe Reon or Kaz'Dek had noticed him.

She looked over her shoulder at the dead man. From what she could see, he was nondescript, the sort of person who could be anywhere and not be noticed among other humans. The timing wasn't good, with the diplomats descending on the station. Of course, for the man who lay in a pool of his own blood, no timing would have been good.

Turning back to the view of the club, she caught the eye of Kez'Dek and motioned him up the stairs. She met him a few steps down, to avoid contaminating the crime scene any further. "We have a dead body in the loft section," Lantz said quietly. "I've notified Security and someone will be here soon. Might be a good idea to see that no one leaves. I don't imagine the killer is still here, drinking downstairs and listening to Denny on the piano, but one never knows." As an after thought, she added, "See that no one comes in, either. After Security arrives, you can lock the doors."

The big Klingon looked at her steadily, then nodded. "I will do as you ask, Ms Lantz, but don't go anywhere without me until this case is solved."

Jade nodded her agreement. "Don't worry. I've no desire to be the next victim. We don't know the circumstances, but I won't take any chances. I promise."

"That will suffice. You have always kept your word to me," Kez'Dek said. "I will see to the club." He turned and took the stairs two at a time to the bottom, heading directly for the door and Reon who served as doorman. As Jade watched Kez, she saw a lieutenant in Security gold enter.

"Ms Lantz?" he asked as he moved toward the woman. He climbed the stairs until he was one step below her, which brought him to eye level. "Lieutenant Devyn Kell. I was told you had need of my services?" he asked her. He'd been told to report here but not why. He put his hand out and offered it to the woman. "I believe we were introduced during the briefing this morning...yesterday morning." He corrected himself, realizing the time.

Shaking the security officer's hand, Jade responded, "Yes, and there were so many new faces there, I'm surprised you would remember me. I wish we were meeting again under happier circumstances, Lieutenant." She dropped his hand and motioned for him to join her.

As they walked to the other end of the loft, she told him, "There appears to be a murder victim at a table back back here. I called security as soon as I saw him, and backed away from the table. It was clear it was too late to help him. No one else has been up here since then, so I hope there are clues to what happened." As they approached the table, they could see the body, and Jade stopped. She didn't actually want to experience more than she already had.
