Mission:
Wrongs Darker Than Death Or Night
Location: Deck 12: Main Operations
Winchester had been sitting at one of the strategic operations consoles for the past fifteen minutes. In front of him was a holographic display of the entire sector, although he had zoomed in on the area surrounding the starbase. The entire back part of Main Operations was designed to be able to control entire fleet movements in far away sectors - the level of detail that it could produce was immense. This was yet another facility, from a long list, on this starbase that was either under used or, in fact, not utilised at all. The first delegation was due to arrive any minute and tensions were stretched thing... all except his, that is. He saw this as posturing and, besides, diplomatic proceedings were nothing to do with him.
"Winchester," Hunt boomed aloud, walking towards him. "What are you doing? How long until the first delegation?"
Hunt had an instant liking for Winchester when he first met him, he had a way about him. He could see why Drake and Winchester were so close.
He turned and frowned, half in mockery. "Well at the moment I'm sitting on my arse doing bugger all, I would have thought that's quite obvious... and according to their manifest the first delegation should be here any minute now. Have you polished your pips and let your dress uniform out a bit?" He teased.
Hunt let out a small chuckle, "So many people past and present did some of their greatest works sitting down and doing bugger all; composers, authors, even artists. The things those people managed to do with their lives were extraordinary. Of course, ready for the delegates."
Winchester had a nice come back lined up about his arse was similar to a composer... when a notification sounded on the console in front of him. A few taps and holographic images of four ships appeared towards the edge of the sector.
"Just as planned... transponder beacons are showing as a Caliburnite Diplomatic convoy. One diplomatic transport, one support class, and two cruiser class." He looked up at Hunt.
"Brilliant. Is Captain Wellington fully prepared with her department? I heard the Colonel paid her a visit," Hunt asked.
A deep frown burrowed into Winchester's face. "Do you not think it's a good idea to hail them, son?" He responded, already tapping his comm. badge.
Hunt hailed the convoy, "This is Commander Zachary Hunt of Starbase Vanguard. We have got your position and will be sending an escort to you to guide you to Vanguard safely."
A swift reply came back, "Thank you Commander, we will see you soon."
Hunt glanced back at Winchester, "Now for the fun bit."
"Winchester to Wellington"
"Wellington here," came the reply.
"The Caliburnite convoy has just dropped out of warp on the edge of the system" His thick, Northern Irish brought an aggressiveness and urgency to everything he said.
With Moklor currently busy with other duties, Brooklyn had taken it upon herself to escort the convoy to the station as she sat in her Valkyrie Attack Fighter. She brought up her sensors as she pressurized the cockpit and brought the engines. "I have them. Launching in 5 seconds." Brooklyn looked over to her wingman and gave the thumbs up and then to the deck chief, who returned their thumbs up and sprinted out of the way.
Brooklyn brought the engines to full impulse as the fighter launched out of the fighter bay with her wingman right behind her. She opened the channel to Vanguard Operations. "Flight Alpha is enroute to the Calibunite Convoy. Intercept speed is full impulse. ETA is five minutes.
Brooklyn soon caught the running and navigation beacons of the convoy in the darkness of space. She opened a channel to the delegation. "Flight Alpha to Calibunite Delegation. We will be providing escort to you to Starbase Vanguard. Please continue on your designated course and speed," she stated as she and her wingman flew past the delegation and executing hard turns to come about, positioning themselves on each flank of the delegation.
"She's good, so she is" Winchester said, admiring the manoeuvres on the holographic display.
He suddenly realised Hunt had not given any instructions on where to go once inside the station he rolled his eyes at him, "I suppose they instinctively know which docking bay to use? Christ man, anyone would think it's your first day out of the Academy!"
"Starbase Vanguard to Caliburnite Convoy" He opened a channel.
"Caliburnite Convoy here, Vanguard" The same, young sounding voice replied.
"Please proceed to main docking bay five, once clear of the bay doors" He instructed.
"Understood Vanguard." The channel was closed.
"Winchester to Dal" He tapped his comm badge yet again.
"Dal here" She responded.
"The Caliburnite convoy is about to dock at docking bay five. Security has reported that there'll be escorts waiting for you and them to proceed to the summit chamber on deck ninety one" He said, tapping away to let yet more people know of the imminent arrival.
"Understood, I'll make my way their now."
