Location: Operations Department
Timeline: Day 1: 1000Hrs
OOC:Hi. As your Assistant Ops Officer I thought it a good idea to do an introductory post, giving the characters a chance to get to know each other a little.
[After the Briefing]
The trip to the Protector was rather uneventful. Xavier would have preferred to have shuttled himself to the Starbase but unfortunately that wasn't an option. Instead he had to get a regular transport ship, which took twice as long and was filled with complaining passengers. Admittedly it wasn't the most luxurious way to get around the sector but it also wasn't the worse, but to hear some of the civilians you would have thought they had had no other options but to get on this particular transport and go to this particular destination. He was in Starfleet, he had no choice when and where he was relocated, they were not bound by the same oath as him. So all in all, Xavier was happy when he finally reached his new home and could stretch his legs away from the cramped ship.
He wanted to visit his quarters first but thought it best to introduce himself to his new boss and get his new assignment before doing anything else. He had studied the station layout on the way here but was still rather daunted by the mere size of the place, he had no idea how he was going to navigate something so vast. After a few wrong turns and somehow managing to end up on the wrong deck he found the Operations Department. He walked into the room and looked around for the person he would be working under for the foreseeable future.
Aryll was collapsed, on her chair, in her office. Her mind was swimming after the meeting, and the walk back had drained her. She was exhausted. Were it not for the proximity of her office, versus her quarters, she would have gone to her quarters, instead. The Door chime went. She cursed under her breath.
"It's open." She said, in a very tired tone of voice.
Xavier entered the office to find his new boss sitting behind her desk. His first impression was that she was quite attractive but for some reason he felt wary of her, though he wasn't too sure why. Maybe his empathic senses were giving him some kind of early warning.
"First Lieutenant LeStrat?" He asked as his black eyes met with her brown ones, "I'm Ensign Xavier Lee, your new assistant. I thought it best to introduce myself formally," he added with a smile.
Aryll rubbed groggily at her face, and she scowled. Great. This fleetie smells of green. "Good. Tell you what. Why don't you grab a bunch of other Ops officers, and throw together an upgrading party." She said. She indicated a PADD on the table. "Lots to do. I figure it'll be halfway into next year, before we're up to fleet specs.
Xavier was a little taken back by LeStrat's demeanor but it wasn't totally unexpected. He assumed this was what his sixth sense had been trying to warn him about. Maybe she gave off some kind of unpleasant aura that he was only aware of on a subconscious level, or maybe she was just having a bad day, after all it happened to the best of them.
"A party sounds like a great idea," he replied trying to defuse the awkward situation with a joke.
Aryll shot him a frosty look, that seemed to chill the air. "As you appear to have problems, with idioms, I'll be more clear." She said, sharply. "Find some technicians, and get started on this repair list."
Xavier stood staring at LeStrat blankly for several seconds. He had to bite back his initial response because he knew it would land him in a whole heap of trouble and that wouldn't be the start he wanted to his new assignment. Xavier wasn't used to people being so abrupt and hostile for no reason and his light-hearted and charming personality didn't really know how to deal with such an individual, especially a superior officer. He was no pushover and could easily put this uptight woman back in her box, but there was a time and a place for such a confrontation and this certainly wasn't either.
So instead he looked his new commanding officer square in the eye and managed to rearrange his features into a more neutral glance. "Yes ma'am." Xavier took the PADD off of her desk and made his way to the door. As they swooshed open he turned back to face the tyrant sat behind her desk. "It was a pleasure to meet you," he said as sarcastically as he thought he was able to get away with. And with those words ringing in the air he left the office to start his new job.
"I'm sure." Aryll said, absent-mindedly, as he left. She may, or may not, have been mid way through falling asleep, by that point.
