Location: Science Chief's Office
ON
Mabrade had some ideas that needed to be expressed, he might even solve a few problems that Science had; or at least some improvements, in the way protector did things. He had to get the approval of the Science chief to follow his plan t the fullest. It was more of a plan tat might benefit both departments an even let the 'Birds' of Protector not sit on their lollies as much?
There are protocols and Mabrade had sent a message requesting an appointment with the Science Officer, he would not just barge into her office and lay out an idea that might not be taken so well, he would show proper respect for a lady and be on his best behavior; science was not his forte but he did know that his Fighter Wings could do more than just patrol. HE showed up at the appointed time knocking on the door frame to her office.
"Lieutenant Greystone," He started his introduction. "I am Major Mabrade of the Fighter Contingent." He nod. "May I come in, I sent word I had a possible plan to get your department extra data as well as my pilots some extra flight time?"
Lys looked up from the proverbial 'paperwork' stack of padds, she attempted to muddle through. Lys smiled as she stood to meet with the man who had some unusual ideas about how to handle concerns and the safety of the base. "Major please, its Lys and there are enough Lieutenants around here that a dozen people will respond if you keep speaking to me with my rank. Now tell me about your idea."
"The premise is simple; I would like to have my fighter pilots make some of those runs; it would help you get scans and my pilots would be be accumulating flight time. I have been told by other commands that the fighters have an effective in this purpose. I have several squadrons of fighters and only so many can be in the air at a given time. Any other projects that come up I can assure you there are pilots that can be of use." Mabrade explained in a friendly tone. "I have three squadrons ready to go, keep one in flight; one on ready ramp and that leaves one squadron that can do 'special projects.' I am offering to support science with more 'probes in essence."
Lys grinned as the concept hit her and the ability to scan and study things way beyond what they already were doing. She laughed softly to herself the more she thought about it "The Colonel what does he think?"
"I have spoken with him, he tends to be the man who allows innovations to be explored." Mabrade explained. "We have two fighter squadrons and a support squadron, there are enough ships to spare a few lucky pilots the change to log flight time into the unknown. Besides, he had informed me that the Aerospace Wing is my responsibility and the more flight time my pilots have and situational exposure can only improve the effective nature of the squadrons." Mabrade grinned."I might even fly a few myself, cannot allow my Belle to get lonely."
"Belle?" Lys asked curiously.
"The name of my Fighter." Mabrade said casually. "Every good ship has a name." He smiled. "She even has what old fighter pilots call 'nose art' which is a representation of a favorable image prominantly; by tradition painted onto the fighter craft, displayed. I have the Bell that I based the name of the fighter upon painted on the fighter."
Lys pushed her hair behind her ear as she listed to the Major speak about his fighter. It like a ship was a she. It was something she would need to ask someone about sometime. "So when can they test the system? Or have you already tested it?" Lys asked curiously.
"It is more of a question of when can you use them?" Mabrade said still standing at ease. "They are ready when you are as I always have pilots that could use some extra flight hours." He told her. "You just give me where you want them to probe and I will get birds in the air as you need?"
Lys smiled slightly as a variety of thoughts sparked her mind. "That sounds like a wonderful arrangement. I am to assume that you have tested this and that it functions well?"
"On a scouting; to what you might call reconnaissance, which is not vary much a change from probing. Both situation were sending my Wing into the unknown to learn more it is just the objective of the scans and flight that change." He grinned. "At least in helping science we are not assure to have someone shooting back, it is a different set of challenges."
Lys leaned back slightly in her chair a small pucker of concentration appeared on her face. "How so, well besides the obvious of getting shot out of the sky."
"Going into unknown areas and finding out what is going on?" Mabrade shrugged. "Be it the Battle field or the sectors of uncharted space there are similarities that make this possible. What can be done is use what we call a 'Fast Mover' or you might say a 'Reconnaissance Craft' which is a stripped down fighter with the weapons replaced by sensory gear and she is fast enough to avoid most problems." He explained. "All the gear you need and more than a standard Proble, we can also send a CAP to protect it if needed?
The smile across the woman's face appeared slowly and then it widened the more she thought about the implications. "Wonderful, we can use them the next time something happens. Which keep our fingers crossed it won't. But then again there is never a dull moment around the base." Lys paused for a moment "Which reminds me, you're new the base aren't you?"
"Newly brought on board and trying to arrange the squadrons into some kind of order." Mabrade said. "I will learn my way around outside Marine Country properly enough." He smiled. "How long have you been here?"
Lys did a mental count of days and months "Around nine months I think it is. Not too long, but also long enough for the circus to visit and enjoy."
"Good as I hate getting bored." Mabrade answered. "So you are a vetren of the station in a matter of speaking?" He raised an eyebrow. "Anything I should know from your experiences?"
Lys shrugged and then smiled "I've been here a little over a year. Interesting things can happen here is all I can say."
"I will take your word for it." Mabrade said as he started to leave. "I will give you some times and a list of pilots that would serve probing well." He gave a nod of the head. "Be well." HE said before leaving.
