Lys entered Orchids & Jazz and stopped long enough to speak with Reon with a smile "Hello, I'm looking for Jade, but how are you?"
"Just fine. It's good to see you here again, Lieutenant," Reon answered. "I think you will find Miss Lantz in her office right now. She was working on financial matters a short time ago. Do you know where that is?"
"No, I don't." Lys replied "Do you have time to show me?" Lys asked hopefully. She had enjoyed their time together at the circus and wanted to spend more time with him. But their hours did not exactly line up very well.
"Of course," Velasquez replied. He signaled to Jenna to play hostess for a few minutes. This time of day, it was unlikely that there would be problems if he were gone for a few minutes. "Come with me. Would you care for a drink? Miss Lantz keeps a 20th century Lemon Coke recipe that's non-alcoholic and very refreshing. My treat." He needed to check his schedule soon, and find a time when he could invite her to lunch, at the very least.
"Yes, I would love to try it," Lys replied as she glanced up at him. "Since our schedules have not coincided very well lately, and I really hate to be forward, but what do you think about breakfast some morning on the promenade? We could meet before I start my shift?" The dark eyed, dark haired woman asked as she glanced up at him once more. Lys liked this man, but she also had a fresh wound to deal with and things needed to go very slow in her world.
Reon smiled, "Let's work that out soon. I'd like it." He stopped at the bar and made up an icy lemon Coke, handing it to her in a frosty glass. "Let me know what you think. Come on back," he nodded his head toward Jade's office and led the way to the door.
"Miss Lantz, Lieutenant Greystone would like a word with you," he said, after a knock on the door frame.
Lys flashed a smile at Reon and touched his arm light before he left, her voice soft. "Thank you for the delicious drink and I hope to see you again before I depart."
Jade looked up and greeted the woman, "Please, come in. Sit down and let me know what I can do for you today."
Lys sat down across from Jade and crossed her legs, she took a sip of the cold drink and then set it on her knee and held it in one slender fingered hand. "Ms. Lantz, I'm so sorry to disturb you." The science officer's look was one of hope, she spoke quietly but confidently, even though the woman across the desk from her made her feel a bit nervous for asking what she was about to ask. It was something out of the ordinary for her to be doing. But she did like the CMO a great deal, it wasn't every day that you met someone and knew that you would become great friends as time passed. "I was wondering if you would have a room that we could use to hold a baby shower, for Dr. Nyx"
Lys glanced around Jade's office to see what sort of things were there. The lady herself seemed to have impeccable tastes and Lys was curious if it showed in her inner sanctum of decor. As she looked, she continued to speak quietly. "The doctor's baby will be born any day now and it would be nice to have a shower prior to its birth, but afterwards might be fine as well. I would really like it to be special, since it's her first and she sees many people each day. I'd like to invite almost every woman aboard if at all possible."
Jade looked thoughtfully at Greystone. "There's the upstairs loft," she said, "if you don't have a real sit-down. We can replace the tables with chairs, serve a buffet, probably get a couple of hundred women there at one time. If you had an event where people could drop in and out over several hours, you could invite quite a few. This is an awfully large base, though," Lantz said doubtfully. "There are thousands of women included in the roster, even if you only count those stationed here, or civilians who live here."
She gazed into the distance. "I think there is a possibility, though. I could cater an event held in the area where we're going to build the gardens. Right now, it's mostly empty sections, but there are floors and bulkheads, so if you had a decorating team go to work, you could put something attractive in." She brought her eyes back to the lieutenant. "If I provide the food and you manage the decorating, yes, I think we could come up with quite a shower."
Lys leaned forward for a second as she thought and then settled back in the chair once more. "I suspect that the good doctor has met with almost most of the women on the station, if she hasn't then they won't come. Unless they like babies of course. I think that the bigger space with some seating. We really don't want people to stay too long, and yet if they need the opportunity to gather and chat, they should have that chance. It might be one of the few functions that occurs on the base where the women actually get to gather and talk. I will make arrangements for decorating. I think finger foods and a punch would be good? But I will leave that discretion to you." Lys flashed a smile at the other woman. "I really appreciate your help in this."
"Not a problem. The doctor is an appealing woman, and I'm sure she has many friends, and even more patients." Jade thought about the foods that would be suitable for a baby shower. "I guarantee a delicious feast, and a wonderful cake, plus punch that tastes good and leaves one clear-headed to return to duty, if needed. Do you have a theme? Or will you let me know when you do?"
"Let's stick with pink foot prints. It's what I always wanted - that or zoo animals, but I think the footprints would be cuter and then there won't be any odd feelings about any thing." Lys thought about the collar on the young doctor and thought that animals in cages wouldn't be taken correctly. "Yes, pink foot prints will be just the thing."
"Pink footprints it is," Jade said, making a note on her PADD. "I think that covers it for the yummies end. I'll leave the rest to you. Great idea. Glad you thought of it. I think we need a reason to celebrate around here!"
Lys laughed, "Definitely and thank you Ms. Lantz." The dark-haired woman stood up and took her leave.
