Location: Counselor's Office

ON:

Lys stepped into the waiting area of the Counselor's office and stepped up to the receptionist. "Hello I'm Lys Greystone I should have an appointment to see the Counselor."

"Thank you, Lieutenant," the blonde woman said. "Give me a moment, and I'll let him know you're here." She tapped her workscreen for a moment and then smiled back at Lys. "Oh, you're new! Welcome to Starbase Protector."

A moment later, a notice appeared on the yeoman's board, and she glanced back at Lys. "Counselor Graves will be right with you. Just have a seat."

In his office, Paul saw the alert that his next patient had arrived. He went to the lobby of the Counseling suite and opened the door. "Lt. Greystoke?" he inquired. "I'm Counselor Graves. Come on in."

Lys stood up and went to meet with the man that she might end up spending long hours with if she wasn't careful with her words. "Please, it is Lys, Lys Greystone." She replied in her soft voice as she entered his office she looked around curiously.

Paul had finally settled on a sky-blue for the walls, with beige carpeting. A beige sofa and matching loveseat with darker brown throw pillows sat in the middle of the room with a low coffee table nestled in among them. Off in one corner, Paul had placed a round table and two chairs. The table was high enough for a person to rest the elbows on or to write at comfortably. At the far end of the office from the door, a desk stood with the Counselor's chair behind it and a couple of chairs facing the desk.

On the walls hung several paintings of flower-covered stone bridges on Betazed.

"Glad to meet you, Lys," Paul said. "Call me Paul. Would you prefer to sit at the sofa or the table?" he asked. "And would you care for some kind of beverage?"

"Let's start with table and I'd like tea, unsweet please." Lys liked items between her and whoever else it was that she was talking to. A nervous habit for sure but it prevents issues.

One of the receptionists stepped in and spoke softly to Counselor Graves and he stated. "Excuse me." He stood up and walked out.

Lys finished her tea and waited for many, many long minutes. Finally she got up and started to walk around to peer at the various artwork, she paused in front of one that had some green rolling hills, a small lake with blue water and a small building. It might have been a house."

The door opened and a tall, dark-haired woman wearing a tea-length dark-blue dress stepped in. "I'm so sorry," she said, her voice lightly accented. "Mr. Graves had an emergency. One of his patients. Do not worry, she will be fine, but he will not be able to meet with you. If you will come with me, I will be happy to help you. My name is Zhara. I arrived only yesterday, so I'm still settling in, but if you will come with me, we can talk in my office."

Zhara led the way to a corner room with a viewport looking out into space. Heavy silk curtains in a rich gold hung at either side to close off the view if needed. Near the viewport sat a couch and two overstuffed chairs in hunter green. Pillows of the same gold silk adorned each end of the couch.

The walls were a mellow cream with a touch of butter, as was the carpet. Along one wall was a mural of a forest. Her desk sat across from it, made from a golden wood of some kind. The lightest hint of chocolate mint colored the air.

A large white husky sat on the floor in the corner. Her tail thumped the floor when the two women entered the room.

"Would you like to take a seat?" Zhara asked her.

Lys looked around the room for few seconds and smiled at decor. The office needed a plant or two but other then that it was very well decorated. Lys chose to sit in a chair as far away as possible from the strange furry creature, so she might observe it. Her family had never owned a dog and she really had never seen one this big before. She leaned back and crossed her legs and swung it absently. and crossed her wrists on her lap. She seemed comfortable and it was apparent that she had visited the Counselors office before. "Where would you like me to start?"

"Where would you like to start?" Zhara countered. "I'm afraid I have not read your file, so I do not know where you left off." She sat by Sophia and absentmindedly ran her fingers through the dog's fur.

Lys laughed lightly "I really haven't started with the other Counselor. Today was to be my first session. It has been mandated by my previous Counselor that I speak with the Someone on a regular basis to help me work through the loss of my..." Lys swallowed and frowned and looked away finally she said softly barely above a whisper, her quiet laughter gone. "husband and our..." Lys took a deep breath and wiped her palms on her pants leg.

"Can I get you something to drink?" Zhara asked. "A soothing chamomile tea or perhaps utaberry?"

Lys nodded her dark head, "For a hot tea I prefer a sage blend with blackberry in it" and closed her eyes and breathed a few deep slow breaths. She continued to speak quietly her voice was hardly strained but one could tell as she spoke that it was as if she had shut herself off from her feelings and tried to hide from them "I had rather hoped that since I had been here in this new location for a while that those feelings would have simply vanished." Lys opened her dark eyes with a sigh "I see that since I was busy with duties that I simply shoved them in a place where they were temporarily held, a place where they simply waited to exposed once more."
