Location: Section 49
Timeline: 0900

On the possibility that Commander Windsong was right and there was a way to reconnect with the residual emotions and the energies in the horrific environment known as sector 49 Samantha and Brian had decided to go back and try to communicate if that was at all possible.

Samantha didn't truthfully know what to expect, she was hoping for leads, not answers, just leads. Leads would do wonderful right now. Leads were great. On the other hand, she was worried for Brian's sake, this was going to be draining on him to say the least. They both stood just outside sector 49... neither of them willing to go in any further, it was daunting, oppressive, but they needed answers.

It had been years since whatever had transpired in this spot had happened. Brian had heard the reports, but they were just images on his PAdD, they did not prepare him for the real thing.

Whatever had happened horror did not began to describe it. Even now after all this time there were still lingering effects. He wasn't sure how Xavier was able to withstand spending so much time here. He took a deep breath to center himself and was immediately sorry he had. He was hit by an overwhelming sense of agony and terror. It was so vivid that he actualy felt physical pain. He took a couple of involuntary steps backwards.

Samantha was right beside him when she saw him take several staggered steps back she touched his arm to reassure him. She didn't know what good it would do but she did it out of compassion. "It's ok, I'm right here."

"I'm okay now," he lied. "I'm going to have to lower my sheilds some more if I'm going to find anything useful and I can't guarantee it even then.

She took his hand, they were connected on some level so she could only hope that her confidence gave him strength. "Only lower them for as long as you can take it, Brian." She reminded him. "If it's too much we'll find another way to nail these bastards."

His fingers entwined with hers and he let out a long slow breath. "There may not be another way."he told her as he lowered his shields as low as he dared and reached out to the past.

There was an instance to intense pain in differen regions of his body. Sweat beaded on his brow and he let out an involuntray cry. It felt as if he was being poked and proded but it was more than that. It was like a laser scappel was slicing off his body parts

That passed relatively quickly, though not quickly enough for the diplomat's tastes.

The worst part was the psychic pain, it was immense, horrific, invasive, disconcerting. He concentrated all of his focus on filtering out all the different voices in his head. He found himself looking through the eyes of one of the victims of the heinous act. It was a bit of a shock for him to realize that he had sight, he had used someone else's eyes, but never the eyes of someone's residual energy.

He was lying flat on his back strapped to a bio bed and someone was leaning towards him. He could tell two thing. First the person was wearing a teal Star Fleet uniform, second the man was wearing an evil smile. Beyond that the details were just too fuzzy.

He let out a loud anguished cry and pulled his shields back up, then he stared into a familiar face, but one he couldn't quite place.

Samantha had begun to shake him when he screamed the first time. "Brian!" She tried to help him, hug him wrap him in her own warmth and love but when he let out that last cry she had to pull back some. "Brian....Brian wake up!" He fell silent his eyes connected with hers. "Brian... Brian answer me!"

He stared at her for several seconds not saying anything. Finally the words, "Who... who are you?" escaped his lips.

Samantha looked at him in surprise. "Brian, it's me Sam." She retorted. "You can see me?"

He shook his head like he was trying to clear it,"Sam? I don't know if see would be the right word exactly. Just for an instance though I saw you in my mind I mean it was like I could see you, just not exactly." He shook his head again,"I am probably not making any sense right now am I?"

She hugged him for just the moment. "I don't care if you make sense." She admitted. "I'm never asking you to do that again."

"I may not have any choice. Somebody in damned Star Fleet uniform was responsible for this. Someone in medical or science. I just couldn't get enough of a read to see the face. We need to see the face, we need to find out who was behind this atrocity."

Samantha looked up at him, at his face. "Brian, you were screaming in pain. I felt it. I can't ask you to go back into that."

He was looking her in the face once more, but this time he couldn't perceive her. "You're not asking. Its just something I have to do. Just not now Its going to take me awhile to adjust."

Samantha saw the glassy expression in his eyes, she knew he couldn't see her anymore. "Do I want to know what you saw?"

"Aside from watching Morgan die, or was the worst thing I've ever seen. In fact it might have even been worse than that. Those people, there were so many of them, suffered so much. It defies description. Whoever is responsible for this belonged to your... our Federation. The blood of all those he committed these acts on cries out for justice. We have to do something."

Samantha nodded her head. "We're doing something, I was hoping this would lead us in a direction but I won't risk your sanity following this lead." She admitted. "Nothing is worth that, we'll find them another way."

"If we don't then like I said I may not have any other choice I'm not going to let these wankers get away with it."

She gave a begrudging nod, even through she knew in the back of her mind he couldn't see it. "Ok, if... but only IF there is no other way, Brian." She told him. "There isn't a chance in hell I'm letting anyone get away with what's happened here."

Brian found her hand and entwined his fingers with hers. "Let's get out of here and go tell Colonel Drake what we found."
