752 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: http://sb109.sim-station.net/index.php/sim/missions/id/3
Location: Security Office
Timeline: Following Meeting with Drake and Karikkar

The meeting with Drake and Cara hadn't gone horribly but Kell knew he had hurt Nyx. He was angry and worried that he'd destroyed her trust in him. He loved this woman and he'd kept something important from her. How could he have just blurted out the truth in front of everyone? He'd seen the look on her face and it wrenched his heart when she moved her hand from his.

Trying to shake the thoughts from his mind, Kell got down to work. He had PADDs on his desk that needed going through, the daily paperwork, if you will, of being the Chief of Security. There were still far too many reports. He needed more staff. His men were spread too thin. People ran over the station like there were no rules.

He had a murder investigation going on, this dilemma with Dobbs on board, and now whatever this new discovery was on 49. Now is limited staff were searching for a lost child on deck 74 because a teacher left the classroom door open and the computer's internal bio scanners were off line on 74. What else could go wrong?

"Commander, you appear troubled." T'sai walked in with her usual stoic look; the brow over her left eye raised in curiosity, her mouth fighting that beautiful smile that was rarely seen while she was in uniform, and her eyes locked on him because she wouldn't veer from the question, which came out as a statement, until he answered it.

"Yep. I shot myself in the foot today and I'm in the doghouse for god knows how long with Nyx. I'm almost glad for the administrative duties to keep me here late tonight." He heaved a large sigh and scratched the whiskers that had formed on his jaw. "Why is she being so irrational? She won't even listen to reason." His hand thumped the desk in anguish. "Women can be so illogical sometimes."

T'sai cleared her throat. "I do not believe women are illogical in general, nor do I believe Nix is being illogical now."

"You can't think I deliberately tried to hurt her or that I was unfaithful to her." Devyn looked at T'sai. He was almost afraid to hear the answer.

"Commander, you were willing to call another woman your wife..."

"In order to get her here safely and keep her under the radar."

Where do you think that would have left your relationship with Lieutenant Nyx?" The brow arched again but this time there was a hint of anger in her tone and the smile was completely erased if it had ever really been there.

"Nyx would have had to understand. This wasn't about her."

"Really? Sir?" T'sai reeled on the man. "The woman you have claimed to be your soul mate would have understood you bringing her out here away from everything she knows to watch you be husband to someone that she does not yet respect?" T'sai shook her head. "Even on Vulcan there would be a challenge to the death."

"It didn't happen." Devyn tried to defend himself but he was beginning to understand how Nyx might be feeling and the thought that she was carrying his child popped into his mind. Suddenly, Devyn felt foolish.

"No, but Lieutenant Nyx is now aware of the fact that it may have happened and you did not explain it to her, you blurted it out in front of her. In essence, you slapped her in the face with it as you sat alongside the woman who would have been your wife in her place. The woman she would have had to watch play house with you for the next...how long sir?" As she spoke, Devyn pushed away from his desk and stood up. He didn't say another word as he secured his weapon in his desk and tapped some keys on the console in front of him. "And now you want to lock her away in the Marine Barracks with the man she despises. That will not go over well."

"You are leaving?" T'sai looked at him and frowned. One did not just get up and leave in the middle of a conversation. "Where are you going?" She asked, the grin was almost apparent on her face.

"I have a little groveling to do." He said as he strode out the door without another word.

"A lot of groveling, I would say." T'sai smiled out right.
