Location: Main Ops: Deck 12
Timeline: Day 1: 1000 Hours
ON:
Lieutenant Commander Ferrok was on the bridge when the Intrepid class ship, USS Yorktown came out of warp in front of Starbase Protector. This was Ferrok's first command and his first assignment as a commanding officer, so he was naturally nervous. As nervous as Klingons get, that is.
He sat in the center chair and gazed around him.
"Ensign, contact the starbase and ask permission to dock."
"Aye sir" responded the Terra Nova tactical officer.
Once hailing frequencies were opened, Ferrok spoke:
"This is Lieutenant Commander Ferrok of the USS Yorktown. Permission to dock Starbase Protector?"
===
Ashton had been perusing the tactical consoles once again in the Ops Centre of the Starbase. He was amazed at how Starfleet had built the tactical consoles to manage such a large arsenal of weapons. The entire point of them was that they were standard... so the same console could be found on the Bridge of, say, a Galaxy Class or a Nova Class - the difference was the same button may have ten different functions here, depending on what menu you were under.
"Sir, the Yorktown has just dropped out of warp and is hailing us" a voice from the Spacedock Operations section of Ops informed him.
"Very good Ensign, put them on screen!"
"This is Lieutenant Commander Ferrok of the USS Yorktown. Permission to dock Starbase Protector?"
"Well, well, well... Starfleet finally gave into your demands and gave you your own ship, ay?" Ashton recognised the face on the screen immediately... unfortunately he had had next to no contact with the Klingon since they both graduated.
"Klingons want, Klingons get. I desired a ship, Starfleet reciprocated. I think it might have something to do with the fact that my father's brother sits on the high council, but who can be sure? Anyway, Qapla Steele! Oh, and I see you've beaten me to the rank of Commander. Congratulations old friend!"
Ferrok said, happy to see his old Academy buddies. Ferrok in general liked humans, but Drake he especially enjoyed. The reason Ferrok did not necessarily know.
"Well technically I'm a Lieutenant Colonel... a lot better than a Commander! But more importantly than ships and ranks, is blood wine! I have a Quartermaster on board who has the uncanny ability to get hold of certain... vintages, shall we say! So, how about you get that old rustbucket into my spacedock and we shall enjoy the fruits of the empire!"
Ashton knew it was important to always be blunt and straight down the line with Klingons... he also knew Ferrok very well and knew that he could push it without him getting in the least bit offended... they had both helped each other throughout the Academy and were definitely friends for life.
"Rustbucket you say? At least all of my systems are working old friend!" Ferrok said while laughing.
"I'll dock now and see you straight away."
The channel cut out.
