ON:

As the light filtered into the room and caught her eyes, Nyx felt the pounding in her temples grow. Rolling over in bed, she groaned loudly and then groaned again much softer as the noise coming from her own lips sent jolts of pain through her head. She reached over the side of the bed to her nightstand for the glass of water she placed there every night before turning in. It wasn't there. Not only was the water missing but the whole nightstand as well. It gave her pause and she fought to open her eyes enough to see without letting the light shine in dramatically.

Opening her eyes, she took in the pale green walls and the empty space where the nightstand should have been. This was a bit of an issue for her as her room was peach in color and the door should be on the other side of her bed. Since she always kept fresh cut, Bajoran Stargazer Lilies on the table in the opposite corner, she should have smelled the spicy scent of them and didn't. Okay it was odd but maybe a good thing today. The way she was feeling the scent of them would have been quite pungent and sweet against the rolling juices in her stomach. It might spare her the unpleasantness that almost always followed waking up in this predicament.

Well not quite this predicament. On every other occasion of reckless inebriation, she never recalled the color of her room changing nor the actual blue print of it. As the reality sunk in as to exactly what that meant to her, the panic welled deep inside. This wasn't her room. It took a moment to realize what actually had happened last night. and try as she might the last thing she could remember was.... Dare she open her eyes to see who was in bed beside her?

"Oh gods," she gasped as quietly as she could remembering Tok's offer of a personal escort home. The greasy little Ferengi thought himself such a catch. But no, she wouldn't have ever been that dr... Cautiously and while every vile thought her mind could concoct flooded her brain, she slipped her hand up her leg, over her thigh and then to her buttocks. A small sigh escaped her when she felt the thin and familiar material of her panties. But she had to be sure before she could open her eyes again and look beside her in the bed. She shifted as inconspicuously as she could until her legs were parted just enough. Sliding her hand toward the crease between her legs...

"You were amazing." The deep gravely voice whispering in her ear caused her to jump and quickly pull her hand from the warmest part of her body. The voice then kissed her cheek and had the audacity to smirk when it did so. As she sniffed in the air still unable to open her eyes all the way, she tried to place the all too familiar voice and hoped it belonged to someone handsome, witty, and familiar...please goddess especially familiar. With a grin, she realized her worries were for nothing. She knew the voice, the scent, the evil SOB that would have done this to her -for her own protection...and to teach her some lesson. "Too bad it was only in your dreams."

"I hate you." She growled as she shrugged the all too familiar voice away from her ear. The grin that plied her lips was well hidden by the blanket and pillow.

"I know." He grinned as he wiped a stray hair from her cheek. "But you would have hated yourself even more if you'd woke up where you were headed." He kissed the shoulder that was turned toward him.

She wasn't about to get any peace laying there. Inhaling deeply, she found the strength to roll over in the foreign bed and glare at her tormenter.

"You can be such a jerk Devyn Kell." She rolled over, her eyes glaring and her temper ready to explode... But rolling over had taken it's toll and Nyx was soon jumping out of bed at break neck speed, heart pounding, head throbbing and stomach...yes of course it would turn on her too. She heard Devyn chuckling as he stood in the doorway assuring himself that she was okay and going to survive her body's rejection of the tequila she drank so recklessly last night. It was one of those life's lessons that most everyone eventually learned...the hard way.

As she paid her homage to the porcelain god, as the saying goes. Devyn kept watch and when she was finished, he handed her a wet towel as she sat back on the floor.

"Breakfast in twenty minutes, shower's all yours til then." He handed her a towel from his closet and walked out of the room. Of course there was an insidious grin on his face. "By the way, you look great in my shirt."

Nyx looked down to see what she was wearing. The man had removed her clothing and dressed her knowing this would happen and that she'd be embarrassed sitting on the floor in front of the commode naked as she retched last night out of her system and yet he didn't take advantage. One had to love a truly honorable man, even when he was being an ass. Nyx enjoyed the hot shower for nearly the entire twenty minutes.

Dressed in a clean Kell sized shirt, Nyx was covered almost to her knees. She towel dried her hair and headed to the kitchen. She was feeling better about herself and Devyn at least for now. Having no appetite for breakfast at the moment, Nyx was glad to see a plate of dry toast and a glass of orange juice. Sitting down at the table, she tried to force the toast down. "Thanks Kell."

"Hey, I wouldn't have it any other way." He smiled as he handed her a small tablet. "Milk thistle, it'll help." He took a seat in front of a plate scrambled eggs, fruit, and some sort of meat that Nyx wasn't even sure she wanted identified. Kell must have seen the look in her eyes as she noticed his plate. "Relax,It's just sausage without a casing. The replicator needs serviced." He shrugged before pointing at her plate of dry toast. "Eat."

His kind words and gestures made her hate and love him even more. If she hadn't wanted him so badly, these new orders would have been the best news. But the Andromeda was based on SB-251 and this is where Kell ended every few months even if for only a day or two. On Protector, there would be no reason for the Andromeda.

"It looks disgusting." She finally mused over the meat.

"So tell me about your orders." He was grinning as he knew the question at this point would get her to finally open and explain all the conflict he could feel radiating from her. It had been a long time since he 'searched' for answers from her and he didn't want to over step. They were making progress in their relationship again and wasn't willing to risk it.

She looked at him. "How can I leave here? They need me. Yes its a promotion and finally a chance to be the CMO but what about all the people here, the ones that come on the regular ships? They expect to see me. How can I leave you..them."

"This was all about leaving me behind?" It was absurd because he hadn't been stationed on the star base for two years. "What I can visit this base but not that one?"

"Its at the edge of the quadrant! I barely get to see you now. The Andromeda isn't going to make a special trip across the galaxy so you and I can have a few days together." She was growing angry and didn't even notice the throbbing in her head got worse as her voice rose but how dare he laugh at her. "Why do you think this is funny? I thought you and I were going to make this work."

"Oh sweetheart," He laughed. "If you hadn't rushed into drinking your cares away last night...I told you I wanted to tell you something when I got here." He reached out and touched her hand. "I've been relieved of duty aboard the Andromeda. My knew orders are as tactical officer on a Marine Star Base," He grinned big enough to show his teeth.

"Star base Pro tec tor?" She asked as it sunk in what he was trying to say.

"So you should climb back into bed and sleep this off a few hours, accept your orders and stop worrying. I'll get Max ready and see that he's taken care of, and when feel better, you can pack your toothbrush baby girl because we're headed out on the next transport tomorrow morning." He smiled.

"I don't have time to sleep anything off. I have too much to do and you know I can't stay in bed all day." She yawned. "I have things to do."

"And as the doctor, what would you tell your patient?" He watched amused as Nyx grew sleepy.

"Lot's of rest, plenty of water...but I," she shook her head as she lost her train of thought.

"You never follow your own rules. You can be foolish but others can't. You can ignore symptoms but others better not...yeah I know." He winked at her. "I've loved you long enough to know how you are." He smirked again as she set her juice glass down and wiped her fingers through her damp hair.

"That wasn't Milk Thistle." She slurred.

"Milk Thistle, mild sleeping aid...I promised it would help." He grinned.

"I hate you." She murmured as she lay her head down.

"I know." He smirked again as hecaught her and lifted her into his arms so he could take her back to bed where she could sleep off at least most of the hangover.

"Kell?" She managed as he lay her on the bed and covered her with the blanket.

"Yeah Nyx?"

"I love you."

"I know." He smiled as he kissed the top of her head and left her to sleep.
