Samantha looked at him from where she sat at the breakfast bar, she wasn't sure how long she'd sat there judging the comment but she knew it wasn't long enough in her own mind. She's spent most of her career keeping people away, how the hell had this happened?! "Well, I like you too." She admitted to him. She did enjoy the sword play and the holodeck. She thought Wicker was adorable.
Samantha had to assume that by like he meant friends, after all he had the Major. She'd heard her say she loved him... and while Sam knew that Brian's race was not necessarily a monogamus relationship type race, Samantha had always thought of herself as a one on one kinda girl.
He smiled when she said she liked him, but his smile fadded slightly as he picked up on her misconception, "No I don't think you understand. Cara thinks she loves me. Hell she may actually do so and I'm sorry about that, Inever tried to lead her on in any way. I don't love her.
And when I say like, I mean dating like."
Dating.... Samantha tried to make the fear of the thought. How the hell had THIS happened!?!? "Brian, you have different relationship standards, than I do. Didn't you tell me you also had a relationship with Kyle?" She sat there and put her hand on his arm. Samantha really did like Brian and had there been a chance in hell she'd date him. But Sam was so terrified of being hurt she didn't know what to do. "I don't want you to be someone different than who you are, just because of me. And I like one on one relationships."
Brian gave a brief chuckle. "Kyle?!? Uh no. Kyle is straight as they come and he's not exactly my type even if he were bi or gay. No,Kyle would be the least of your worries."
Samantha gave him a glare, it was part playful and part serious a relationship with Brian might be nice. "I don't understand, we've met twice, the first time I made an idiot out of myself and ran off and the second time wasn't exactly brilliant either."
"You never made an idiot of yourself and I can't exaclty explain my feelings, but when Kale used you like he did... well, I don't know but I really wanted to protect you and I realized I care for you, at least on some level and I want to find out exactly what that is. If you're willing that is."
Samantha didn't really understand because she'd never asked what had happened and he'd never told her. But the idea that through his own pain and suffering he'd wanted to protect her made her all warm inside. It brought a smile to her face. Again, Sam did wonder about him, and she had rushed in to protect him too. She'd have fought tooth and nail had someone told her she couldn't go... and there was that feeling in her stomach when Cara said she loved him.... ok ok, Sam told herself. "I'd like that."
"Good," Brian replied a smile crossing his face, "Let'sjust take this nice and slow."
Samantha couldn't have agreed with him more. She hadn't dated anyone since the academy she really didn't know what was expected or what to expect. Although something about Brian suggested anything was possible. Sam smirked at him. "So, insanely off subject, what was the whole ordeal with Kale? I thought at first it was about the peace talks, but it seemed like something personal when Kale and I were fighting there at the end." She admitted. "Teague wouldn't let me see the report because techincally I wasn't assigned to the station yet." That would be interesting to explain if he asked. Samantha had acted on her own accord, she'd still technically been on leave when the whole situation had happened.
Brian turned to her cocking his head slightly. "Well that is a bit complicated, Kale was hired to do a job, disrupt the peace talks so in a sense it was about the negoiations, but it went a lot deeper than that. Kale's dad was screwed over by my dad years ago, and he blammed me for it.
Of course, that wasn't even half of it. You know I told you about what happened to Morgan and myself?"
Samantha nodded her heard, he'd not gone into detail but she knew they'd been tortured and Morgan had been killed and Brian had gone blind. "But you'd have been a child at the time, that doesn't seem right." She admitted that nothing was necessarily right in the mind of the criminally insane.
It was just five years ago, so I was hardly a child, but yeah you're correct, it wasn't right. For years I've been trying to figure out who was responsible, who could have done this. Now I know. It was my brother and Kale wasn't just a hired hand, Kale was his lover."
Samantha looked more than a little surprised. "You're own brother sent Kale?" Her big blue eyes drifted from his features to the floor. "I guess you and I are a lot more alike than I thought." she couldn't help but smirk. "My family isn't exactly supportive of my role in Starfleet either." She was trying to make light of the situation, but the truth was she was still very aware that Kale has escaped, she blamed herself for that. And if Kale was still alive, there was a chance be it a small one he'd be back for Brian.
Though Brian could not see her smirk he could sense the attitude behind it, "Well most of my family is behind me, I'm just doing my part for the good of Akadia, which in reality means I'm doing my part to build up the family name and reputation. My brother is just making a, how would you say, power grab. But tell me about your family, I don't really want to talk about myself or my baggies."
Samantha shrugged somewhere in her omelette. She really couldn't tell him much. "My parents hate starfleet, hate is putting it nicely I think." She admitted. "They'd rather me spend my life on earth training horses and staying out of trouble." She offered. "Not to say that they're not great people, my parents are fantastic people... they're just very against my career path."
"Why would they be opposed to something if it made you happy? I don't understand. Your culture is much different than mine it's less, rigid. Don't they want you to do what you want to do?"
Samantha let out a deep breath her hands folded into her lap as if she'd been asked that question before. "Not necessarily, by parents are very much against space exploration all together. They don't believe humanity has any right being out here." She offered. "They haven't stopped talking to me, they just constantly remind me that they'd rather I was there." She didn't use the word home because Earth wasn't really home anymore for her.
"I am sorry to hear that but I am glad that you are your own person and you didn't back down. I like that quality in you. In fact its what made me know Kale wasn't torturing you like he claimed. When he told me you were begging for your life, I knew he was full of crap."
Samantha lifted her eyebrow over her big blue eye... "He said he was torturing me?" She shrugged her shoulders. "I guess in a sense he was, while Wicker and I were trying to find our ways down in the belly of the station we could hear you and I could only fathom what was going on. It made me so mad..." She admitted. "I wasn't sure what I was going to do when we found you." Sam frowned. "And then we saw you laying there and I thought...." She stopped herself and cleared her throat.
Brian swallowed hard, his heart beating faster at the thought that she could care for him, "It's okay Samantha, you can tell me, what did you think?"
She had to swallow back tears she hadn't fought before. She flicked a bit of blonde hair out of her eyes. "I was afraid you were dead, and I was blaming myself for not noticing something was wrong earlier." She admitted. "And then all I wanted to do was rush in there and check for a pulse, but the Major got to you first and when she said you were alive I had to shift gears and my objective was just to get you out alive." Samantha pushed a tear out of the corner of her eye with her finger tip. She huffed a laugh. "I hate crying."
Brian moved towards her reaching towards her face to brush any stray tears away before wrapping his arms around her and gently kissing her forehead, "It's okay, I survived and I don't think I would have without you. Are you forgetting you were the one that figured out what was going on? You're the one that thought to bring Wicker?"
She hugged him softly. "Everyone else can sense you, you all have some sort of telepathy... Wicker was my first reaction." She smirked. "Her nose was what found you." Sam shook her head. "It doesn't matter, you're safe and sound." She touched his face, he was handsome in some ways, but it wasn't his features that made her care about him, they helped but she liked his independence, and the fighter in him. He had experienced hell and survived, that had nothing to do with her. He could have given in at any time. He trusted his friends to come for him.
He reached out for the hand that had carressed his cheek and took it in his, noticing that her hand and his were almost the same size, Then without fully knowing why, just knowing it was the right thing to do, he cocked his head slightly leaned forward and found her lips with his.
She felt his warm lips against hers and she wasn't exactly sure what to do, his hand was holding hers and she found herself
