Starbase 109: The Phoenix
"We have powerful tools: Openness, optimism and the spirit of curiosity." -Jean-Luc Picard
Welcome to Starbase 109! We are a "Star Trek" play-by-Nova RPG sim with a legacy covering over a decade! Starbase 109 is part of Theta Fleet's “Area 51” task force.
Our sim takes place within the decade prior to the events in the first season of “Star Trek: Picard.” SB109 lies out on the edge of Federation space, isolated far from the more “lawful” parts of the Alpha Quadrant. As a Federation starbase, we must uphold Federation law. But that can be tricky when you're located in a place rife with social instability. Sometimes we must take matters into our own hands, even if that means bending the rules... something the station's inhabitants know all-too-well!
We're looking for bright minds to come aboard and create fantastic stories within the “Star Trek” universe! We are a sim that honors Gene Roddenberry's original vision of hope, aspiration, and progression of the human spirit!
Our sim is rated PG-13 and is open to ages 18 and higher. We do not condone writing of torture or excessive violence, harsh profanity, or graphic sexuality. We encourage compelling plots with a diverse cast of characters, containing the action and drama befitting the “Trek” universe on a Starbase with endless amounts of possibilities!
Above all, inclusion and activity between our crew is our first priority. Primary characters must take on roles vital to a Federation starbase. Every player is urged to interact with others. There are primary missions going on at all times, and characters will be required to perform their designated jobs. Stories with NPC characters are always welcome too! Feel free to write and create as much as you like! If you are new to online simming, we welcome you with open arms! We hope we can make your first steps into our community easy and enjoyable!
Before we accept your application, the Commanding Officer will contact you to start a "Sample Joint Post." This is meant to determine the quality of writing, your interaction with others, and how well you are able to write your character. It is not an official post.
Interested in joining? Make it so!

Legacy Award
In the memory of Susan Nixon. She was a mother figure to all who came aboard. She cared about every player and every character, and was our CO for almost the entirety of Starbase 109's twelve years. Her departure greatly saddens us all. Starbase 109, her legacy to us, will continue with her in all our hearts. Her contributions to the simming community and her ability to mentor writers on her sims has been invaluable and greatly appreciated.

Hi all! Just wanted to let you know if you received an email of "A Fire Shall Be Woken" attributed to "CAPT Adam Teague," just know that I have no idea who Captain Teague is, but I wrote the post.
Also, apparently the site had been programmed to send posts for my approval before they are posted. That's been driving me crazy and I think I fixed the problem. It shouldn't happen anymore. I trust all of you as players and writers. I don't want to be the kind of controlling Captain that has to approve everything first. Very sorry…

Greetings Starbase 109 Players,
Here is an update on my status for those interested...
The nerve pain in my shoulder is mostly better, but there's still occasional pain. I have an appointment this week with the pain specialist who gave me my shots a few weeks ago. I feel like I'm in a good space mentally and emotionally. This last week was a very good one.
What I'd like to do coming back is work on the temporal war storyline surrounding Gary Thirteen and Sundae, which has been in the works since before I took command. I also want to…

I don't know if anyone else here is as interested in orchids as Susan was--I'm not--but this video about orchid care made me think of her. It was awesome--and fascinating! I learned something from it that I didn't know before. Could be useful for Orchids & Jazz. To use the link, click on the title of this message.

Hello crew!
This has been a long time coming, and at this point I don't think should come as a surprise. So I'll be brief.
There are several players/characters that have not logged on for months, some even over a year. We've all had a lot of emotional moments in the last year or so, and I can understand if people have needed time. However, I believe it is time to move on, and to move on means I need to know who are still interested and who are leaving.
I'm giving everyone until Friday, September 13th to respond via…

Mission: From The Ashes
Posted on Mon 29th Sep, 2025 @ 3:46pm by Commander Heriah Rex & Commander Geraldine "Geri" Severide & Commander Anslo Tol
{Infirmary Primary Ward}
Heriah was standing in Sick Bay. Dr. Delling and his team were ready.
"Dr, Delling," said Heriah, "please see to it that these three are separated as best as you can upon transport. I feel they may be trouble to a degree. There will be drama, of course."
"I've found that this place excels at drama. I shall be quite happy when I get some of the kinks worked out of the new setup." He smiled slightly at her and
The vacant space in the middle of Sick Bay lit up with three transport beams. The beam…

Mission: From The Ashes

-Start-
{SB109- Conference Lounge Bravo}
The smaller of the Conference lounge rooms, it had a view of something important so Geri had selected it since the overlook showed Docking Bay Two. The bay was still out of order, and work crews weren't allowed to access it. This oddity would only compound in actual interest over time. She stared at the ship, knowing others had seen it by now. Less than a day ago, the pitted, hulled, utterly wracked vessel had settled into their docking bay, but the crew inside still hadn't come out. Alex, their captain had disappeared altogether, although…

Mission: From The Ashes
Posted on Mon 22nd Sep, 2025 @ 8:51am by Commander Heriah Rex & Lieutenant Victor Delling MD
Out of her meds, Heriah hurriedly made her way to Sickbay. She held her empty hypospray as though she was caring for a small sick animal. Her isoboramine levels needed to remain in balance and her medication, the benzocyatizine, was needed to help do just that. Unfortunately, her empty hypospray was meant to supply exactly that, but it was aforementionedly...empty. She sent the final quarter dose a few minutes ago in her quarters. She massaged the side of her neck, hoping to send the medication forth and hoping against hope that it would somehow amplify the effects of the quarter…

Mission: From The Ashes
Posted on Tue 16th Sep, 2025 @ 11:54am by Makila i'Hartelhai
The knot of tension in her back and belly unwound as she threw herself down on a cot in the decontamination chamber. Pristine white walls surrounded her and honestly made her headachey a little bit from the subtle scent/nonscent of the chemicals used in the decontamination process. She knew they wouldn't harm her, yet every set of spray and beam of light made her wrinkle her nose or cover her ears in subtle discomfort. The subtle discomfort was better, she knew than the 300 odd patients that she had seen over the course of the last 24 hours.
The knot…

Mission: From The Ashes
Posted on Fri 12th Sep, 2025 @ 9:07am by Commander Heriah Rex & Lieutenant Commander Azusa Nakano
After meeting up with the Captain, Azusa had a few stops to make. Her next stop was that of the bases Executive Officer. She had to get herself put onto the duty roster, and find out the location of her quarters. She also needed to ensure that her quarters came with a cot for when her unborn baby arrives. She had put down for family quarters so she hoped that there were some spare.
She made her way towards the office that the Computer told her was the location of the base's executive officer. Upon reaching the door she rang…

I need to do some thinking.
I was walking through the Promenade this evening because I'd bought some new seeds for my hydroponics garden, and this godawful song started playing over the PA system. It was an old Earth song, very peppy and upbeat, and I wasn't really in the mood--but then the lyrics hit me: I just want to be your everything. And it got me thinking about Elizabeth.
Big surprise there. What doesn't get me thinking about Elizabeth, these days?
But the really prominent thought in my mind was, You shouldn't be my everything. I miss you so…
» Musings on the Theme from 'Patton'
Posted on Sat 19th Oct, 2024 @ 5:46pm by Lieutenant JG Kellian Michaels
This evening, when I got home from work, I made supper and decided to watch an old Earth movie called Patton. It's about a United States Army general named George Patton, who was known for being rather flamboyant, exhilarated by combat, and intolerant of what he perceived as weakness in others. Most interestingly to me, he remembered past lives in which he had served in historical military forces. He could stand on a historical battlefield and describe exactly some battle he had fought in because he was seeing it as he remembered it happening. I suspect people at the time…

Krell had shown the last two of his guests to their quarters on the Amar and went back to his quarters and decided to take a moment to add to his personal log. He sat down at the desk. It was nothing special, just a hard alloy metal frame like everything else in his quarters. The Klingons did not believe in comfort, they thought it would make them weak. There was a cushioned sofa, two cushioned chairs and coffee table at one end though, they were used to entertain certain guest if they were to come to his quarters to…

Posted on Thu 23rd Nov, 2023 @ 5:21am by Commander Zed
Zed walked over to her sofa and sat down and pulled her legs up under her, effectively curling up comfortably. She picked up the PADD and the hot cup of black tea that was on the near by end table. She activated the PADD with her fingerprint. The screen came to life and the rear facing camera displayed a live image of her face.
"Begin recording." She said. "Captain's Personal Log." She began. "Stardate 2232.1, the Thunderchild is back at Starbase 109 after cutting its patrol short to aid the USS Comfort which was under attack by pirates. Attacks carried…

{Civilian RT Hauler “OllyOxenFree” ~16 hours to Ullia~}
I can’t say the word without it making me feel ill. “Home.” The word chokes me every time. Where is home, not down the path by which I am now dragged inexorably screaming. Who is there, do I have anything of my old life to go back to? Twenty one years on a floating hulk light years from here and I feel more like I’m leaving home then going back to something I’d even recognize!
My record is wiped. Something I did by accident which changed my…
