Location: Transport near Protector.
ON
Mabrade had not liked the accomidations on the ship ferrying him to Protector; they had given him a hard time about the dagger of his fathers; the one he kept close to him at all times. Once he arrived at the station it will start again, another round of checks on his racial belief in carrying a ‘Ceremonial’ weapon at all times to respect their warrior heritage. He would also need to make a trip to the hydroponics section to check on some fine hopps for his experiment. The quality of the ingredients made or broke the final product.
His gear was neatly stowed as is proper for transport when the ship finally arrived, of course he would miss the woman ‘Chentel’ as she had become rather nice company during the trip, being a member of the ship’s complement Mabrade spent time twith her while in flight, she always gave him some excitement; who would have thought a Yeoman could be so stimulating, being a rather accomplished Chess player they had played several times for different stakes; he had managed to keep her in debt for that, he gave her some close games as she did nearly get him and he let her.
It was good to have company in the long hours of the night; all he needed was a simulated fireplace and a warm blanket to have their conversations perfect. Chentel had a wide variety of interests; she also made a fine cup of tea to pass the time. Ten days passed quickly while in her company; he began to dislike the fact he had to leave; but thus the life of the Corps.
Mabrade had kissed her good bye in the morning of his departure; they had spent the last night in her quarters. She had the supple skin that Mabrade could caress all night given an opportunity. She had not cried; he could tell she put up a face. He gave his word to remain in contact; he did not give this word often, she had managed to touch him after being snt way from a Command he found stimulating. The Akia class are fine fighting ships despite their age; the modified Module for an extra squadron gave Mabrade more fun to play with; he had to deal with an Aerospace Command Officer that is a micro manager.
Many times Landon had good flight schedules, enforcing patrols to share flight time but, Phipps had other plans even for a human he is a stubborn man. Mabrade respect the achievement for Phipps to gain his rank and position but outside that neither man really associated with one another in “Marine Country’ despite being together on duty a majority of the time. It was an aggressive style of Flight Patrol; even suggesting the Fighters go for robe missions just to get the added flight time rather than having automated probes used.
Mabrade believed that a person could do the same job of scanning as a probe, relaying information, and a skilled pilot might notice trouble or small details a machine could miss. Besides all probes do is fly in and take ‘pictures’; be it very detailed datum filled ones, and relay them back to the source. Mabrade wanted his pilots sharp; more flight experience. He had one too many clashes with Phipps over this matter, it was dragging him down. The fact the ship had 3 full squadrons and still only had one in the air at any given patrol just seemed a waste to Mabrade and finally he went to the captain of the ship and brought his thoughts to the mix.
Phipps did not take it well and brought insubordination charges leveled against Mabrade; if it were not for the respect of Phipps rank and position Mabrade might have taken more insult and levied more to bring the man down but that would achieve nothing. What happened was more in favor of Mabrade, the Ship Commanding Officer recommended Mabrade be transferred and put the paperwork through for a removal and assignment elsewhere, anywhere seemed desirable to where he is. The fisrt real position that fit the bill was Starbase Protector. The transfer went through and even a rank jump to Major. He would be in the same job as Phipps; Mabrade vow not to make the same mistakes his predecessor had made.
One last kiss to Chantel and a soft caress of her cheek in passing before it came time to leave.
Mabrade had his gear in Mika on the Flight deck; or ‘shuttle Bay as the Fleeters call them.
