926 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: http://sb109.sim-station.net/index.php/sim/missions/id/2
Location: Starbase Sierra
Timeline: 40 hours before arrival to Starbase Protector

James Patterson was sitting at a small table from his son, looking out the window too star base Sierra, "so are you done packing?" He asked his son.

"No I haven't yet..." Clark said talking a sip from his coffee. The quite felt good for a while. He hadn't seen his dad in almost six months, and now he was about to be transferred to another starbase. One that intel hadn't fully filled him in on yet.

His dad is a star fleet Admiral that refused to give up his seat at the center of the bridge he was able to negotiate a pretty well offer. He commanded a Nova class science vessel. Taking her to the edge of unexplored space for detail scanning and mapping. Her current mission was to report to star base Sierra for an upgrade to her sensor systems then she was off to go survey a solar system in the Beta quadrant, with 9 gas giant planets and over 40 moons. Three of which were capable to support life.

"What do you think about my next post?" Clark asked intentionally avoiding the question.

"To that star base that was once belonged to civi's? I think..." He paused for a moment to think of a answer, "I'm glad that your moving up in rank... I still would have liked if you could serve with me on the Samson. But I know that you go wherever command sends you."

"Thanks dad." Clark said with a smile. He didn't need to look into his mind to know that he was telling the truth.

Even though the young man sitting across the table wasn't his biological son, he was a abandon child that was left at his door steps with a simple note saying his name, James had no reason to call him anything else other then son or lieutenant commander when they where both in uniform. He took him in as his own. Raised him and helped him become the young talented man he is today.

"When do you leave?" The proud father asked.

"I leave in 4 hours down to the station to report on a transport ship the Kittyhawk, that will take me to the Protector within 36 hours, from there I report to Lieutenant Colonel Ashton Drake."

"He's a Marine?" James said wide eyed.

"Yes, sir," Clark said.

"Well, I better get going. The Corps of Engineers where going to begin installing these new sensors to the ship today. And you know me, if it involves my ship I want to be there to see it done right. If I don't get a chance to see you off, remember to write." He raised from his seat and adjusted his admiral uniform. "Oh and before I forget, I want to give you something." He tapped his combadge. "Patterson to Davis."

=/\= Davis here, how can I help you Admiral?=/\= his Yeoman asked.

"Bring that box that's on my bed to my sons room on the double," he said with a firm voice.

=/\= Yes sir ill be right there.=/\=

Within a minute the Yeomen was outside the door.  The door opened and he walked inside to see the Admiral and his son standing looking in front of the window.  "Here you go sir. Is there anything else I can do for you?" he handed the box to the Admiral.

"Nice timing. That will do for now. I'll see you on the bridge in a few minutes."

James waited until his Yeomen left before he turned to his son. "Here you go."

Clark opened the box and took out a old trench coat. He looked at the familiar coat that his dad use to wear. The black and grey coat was in his family for 4 generations. His dad got it from his father when he made Lieutenant Commander. "Thanks dad," he said giving him a small hug.

"Your welcome son. I hope one day you can give it to your own son or daughter one day. I have to get going now. Take care of your self out there. May your life be interesting." He said with a grin leaving the room.

Clark was happy. He put the on that reached just above his mid thigh. There were several pocket that looked big enough to carry his engineering tools. It was after all and field tech coat from the late twenty-two hundredths. Not that he needed his engineering tools anymore.

He took the coat off and gatherd all his belongings together. There wasn't much. A picture of him when he was 6 sitting in the captains chair when his dad was the first officer. His dad was too his left and the ships Captain, Alex O'donell, was to his right.

He looked through his room for anything else. A few data PADDs he kept from his time at the academy. Engineering schematics... his favorite tricorder, hand phaser, personal logs... Intelligence reports from his short two years in star fleet... A few pieces of clothing... That was all from his room on the Samson. He knew his dad might not be around the protector for a long time so he new he should get what he could from there. He bigger room on Sierra had a few few more things he could use.
He put his things into a hexagon case and out the strap around his shoulder he left his rooms and made his way to the airlock. He still had three hours before he headed on to the Kittyhawk.

End.
Lieutenant Commander Clark Patterson
Chief intelligence officer
Starbase Protector.
