Timeline: Current, Afternoon

Jade glanced around the room, noting the increasing number of guests. She wasn't worried about the buffet table. It was full, there was more in reserve, and T'scholk was supposed to arrive with something to contribute to the food tables, too.

"Jenna, have you seen T'scholk?" Jade asked her employee. At the blank look on Jenna's face, she clarified, "The Romulan who runs the Klingon restaurant, Targ?"

The woman's face cleared, "Oh, I know who you mean. No, I haven't seen him today ... or in a while, actually."

"Thanks," Jade said, wondering where the Romulan and his promised delicacies were.

T'scholk was making his way to the cargo bay with two large carts. It had been a long few days, with the expanse of his restaurant, he had to hire a few new employees. Unfortunately, that also required him and his Bolian assistant manager, Tott, to train all of them, which at the end of the week left both T'scholk and Tott exhausted. Even though T'scholk usually only slept for two hours for every twenty-eight.

In the mean time, they were running late and T'scholk hated the feeling that he was keeping people waiting. As he and Tott approached cargo bay 360, he was hoping he would get to apologize for their tardiness. "Tott, I hate being late like this. Thank you for helping," T'scholk said as he pushed the cart in a rush.

"Sir, just next time let me hire the new employees, you fall for every hardcase," Tott said with a sarcastic smile.

"I don't fall for it, I just feel for them. I think I see Ms. Jade pacing. I just hope the food is good enough," T'scholk said with what appeared to be a worried look on his face.

Jade glanced up to see the person who had been in her thoughts. The carts he brought with him were covered with food trays, so she relaxed and greeted him with a grin. "There you are! I was beginning to think we might have to send out for pizza! I've left space here on this table," she pointed gracefully toward one which was three left of the center. "Can you maneuver between the balloons and potted plants alright?"

"I can, I am not sure Tott can. He is a bit on the grumpy side." T'scholk said, a moment later Tott made a rude grunt. "I sincerely apologize for my tardiness. It appears that some new employees are harder to train than we originally thought."

"We?" Tott said from across the room.

"But we brought extra food to make up for the time. I just hope they like the options we had to offer."

The door slid open and Mikaela Locke entered the room as subtly as she could. Prior to her 'encounter' with Captain Dobbs, she had had little time to meet many of the crew - indeed Nyx was one of the few crew she had met. She sulked along the wall, surveying the room, trying to see if there was anyone that she might be able to speak to, so that would feel less awkward. Truth be told, she had little idea why she was there in the first place. This was usually the kind of social situation that she avidly avoided, but she felt she owed Nyx a debt.

She picked out Jade Lantz, standing by the buffet. In her brief time aboard the station, Jade was the only person she felt she had made any kind of connection with at all. Negotiating the perimeter of the room, she arrived at the side of the El-Aurian hostess.

"Miss Lantz," she greeted her formally.

"Oh, hello!" Jade said warmly as she turned and recognized the lieutenant who had enjoyed the music in her club. "I'm so glad you could come today. I wasn't sure if you'd be able to get time off. It's a bit of a madhouse, but have you had time to see the baby? She's simply adorable, and I'm not even related to her," she joked.

The baby shower attendees swirled around Jade, Mikaela and the tables of food. Talk ebbed and flowed, the volume swelling and receding like a wave on the beach. The baby was passed from one visitor to another under the watchful parents' eyes.

Later, cleaning up after everyone had gone, Jade considered the party a complete success. The bags of discarded wrapping paper and ribbons was evidence of the number of people who cared about Nyx and the new baby. The remains of the food were evidence of how much social interaction had gone on during the party. She smiled as she popped a balloon with a loud bang.
