T'scholk walked at his casual pace through the promenade, his destination clear. It was one of his favorite places on the starbase. It was lively and reminded him of New Orleans and of Memphis, all the great places on earth that had great music, great drink and, of course, great food.
He walked over to the bar and gently placed a wrapped package on the bar and waited silently. Not even bothering anyone, maybe he just liked seeing people do what they enjoyed.
Jade returned from a circuit of the customers to see someone waiting at the bar, and no one behind it. As she hurried over, she recognized T'scholk, owner of Targ Restaurant. "Hey, what brings you in?" she asked, smiling and setting up a glass and pouring bajoran herbal tea into it, knowing it was a favorite of his. "I thought you might have seen enough of me this week."
"A person can never see too much of a friend ... family is a different story." T'scholk sipped some of the tea then handed Jade the package. "Beware Romulans bearing gifts. A customer sent me a crate of exceptionally rare earth whiskey ... also it's a bribe."
Jade took the package and opened it to find a sparkling clear golden whiskey with a Johnny Walker Blue Label still attached. "I haven't seen one of these in a long time, even at an auction house. You must be a really good friend of this customer. And you must want something I'm not going to want to do." She set the bottle on the bar between them, closer to the Romulan than herself. While she'd love to have the bottle, even for display purposes, she wasn't taking something until she knew what it would cost her. "Spill it."
"It depends, I was wondering if you would be interested in going to the circus with a Romulan. I hate to go alone and, to be honest, many people on this base feel I'm going to take it over for the honor of the Romulan Empire." T'scholk laughed, his calm demeanor unshaken. "Plus life should be enjoyed by people, it makes the moments last."
"You would bribe me with a rare bottle of liquor to go out with you ... to the circus?" Jade asked in amazement. "Are you completely crazy, or just pretending?"
"I'm a Romulan that owns a restaurant with a Klingon name on a Federation base. I think my sense of sanity is already gone. Plus the whiskey seems to fit your wonderful establishment compared to my quaint restaurant. So what do you say, shall we go see the lions, tigers and bears?" T'scholk said.
Jade mulled that over, while examining his aura carefully. Nothing she saw was any different than usual, and it still contained no hint of any dark overtones that signified deceit. Reaching for the bottle, she put it back in the very nice box and closed the lid. Then she nodded her head, "Alright, let's do it! I've never actually been to a circus. I had to look it up in the starbase LCARS to find out what it is, exactly. They have lions and tigers and bears?"
T'scholk stood up still smiling. "I sincerely hope so. I can use a few new ideas for my menu." T'scholk couldn't help but chuckle. "I have never been to a Federation circus, but the Klingon ones can be extremely dangerous."
Jade walked around the bar and joined T'scholk. As they walked out the door, she said to Reon, "I'm going to the circus. I'll be back later." He nodded, inwardly glad to see her socialize. His opinion of her choice of companion didn't show on his face.
Turning back to T'scholk, she asked "Dangerous to the audience or the performers?"
