"So I told him I'd love to go, but I'm not sure there are any tickets left," Serena told Jade.

Jade looked up from her computer. "I'm sorry. I must have missed something. Who invited you where? And why wouldn't there be any tickets?"

Serena rolled her eyes. "Honestly, you need to get out of this office once in a while. Hello? The Circus? They arrived yesterday in Cargo Bay 350, down on Deck 1300. Well, late last night, anyway."

"If they just arrived last night, why wouldn't there be tickets?" Jade asked, still confused. "What's the big deal about this particular circus?"

"They're supposed to be quite good, and sort of ... well, retro, I guess. They put up a big tent, just like in ancient times, and they have clowns and wild animals and something called a high wire act, though I'm not sure what that is," Serena confessed.

"What's a clown?" Jade asked with a frown. "I don't think I ever heard of that. Is it some kind of animal?"

Serena thought for a moment, then said, "I don't think it can be since wild animals are listed separately, but what difference does it make? There's something NEW on the base, that's what matters. That and Anthony asked me to go with him."

"Anthony? Isn't he that sort of shy ensign from Engineering? The one who spilled clam sauce on your dress about two weeks ago? You're actually going somewhere with him?" Jade was full of questions.

With a blush, her assistant said, "That's the one. I know he's a bit of a klutz, but he's really nice, and ... well, it's the circus, you know?"

The El Aurian shook her head. She didn't know really. The circus was a foreign concept to her, but she'd better look it up and see if there were something she could do to capitalize on their presence for the good of the jazz club. It was unlikely that they used jazz in this antique show, but stranger things had been known to happen.

"So what you really want to tell me is that you need tonight off instead of your usual evening," Jade said, after working her way mentally through all that had been said.

Serena nodded, "IF he can get the tickets. Otherwise, no point in making schedule changes."

With a sigh, her boss said, "Let me know as soon as you can. In the meantime, let me see what kind of menu specials I can create with the chef in order to take advantage of the circus theme."

"Thanks. You won't regret it!"

"I already do," Jade answered, burying herself in the search mode of her computer.
