649 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: From The Ashes
Location: Docking bay 2

Victor had settled down into his seat only to find that both Vivienne and Wyndon were scheduled as incoming to the station. He'd been so physically moved by the sight of their names on the register that he'd had to slip away from view to wipe the tears that prickled at his eyes. That was too much emotion for his new staff to see in him on the first few days of a new assignment.

He'd missed the two of them more than he cared to admit.

The trio had been inseparable during medical school, and had all had difficulties when they were separated. The team, Victor, Vivienne and Wyndon worked so well together with all of their different specialties combining that they were considered to be a functional unit in their graduating class. It was not until they had all come up in the top 10 of the class and had been sent to different cadet Cruise that they realized just how dependent they were on each other. While keeping in touch, the three all promised to themselves and each other that if any of them were ever to come across a cheif position that they would in turn request the others.

Even if Victor hadn't intended to do that, he desperately needed them both, as they bolstered his soul as well as his ability to to his job well. Competence was a factor but so too was the fact that the two were the first friends he'd ever truly had and his psyche was dependent on the relationship. The man's introspection lasted until the bay door opened and out walked a tall shapely white-haired woman with a tattoo between her eyes. It wasn't actually a tattoo, and everyone of her species was so marked but he neither cared, nor let it deter him about teasing her about her deviance.

Vivienne had gone into private practice, on a colony world that was a mirror to her own upbringing and Victor had been hurt that she'd abandoned them both for such a deviation to their plan. In those days their plans didnt matter as far as Starfleet was concerned and yet, he tried all he could do to bring them back together again. He'd been both pleased and grateful that she would drop her practice on a moment notice to come back to serve with him once. To serve under him, again even after the disaster of the Myogi assignment was different entirely. That was even more of an honor, and one that Victor was not always sure he was deserving of. The fact that they'd both been willing to follow him again, to this base moved the man to literal tears.

He'd expected his two best friends to write him off after the assignment that had led to his court martial. It had been a farce of a court martial for which and he'd prepared for days. it still threw his mental status into a downward spiral. He'd been convinced that the preparations he'd done would be meaningless in the blind hatred of everything he'd done.

The light on the wall flipped from red to green, indicating that the transport carrying his friend had arrived.

Finally.

He swept the silver haired woman up in his arms luggage and all when she arrived in the hatch to the docking bay. He was again struck by her poised confident self when shed been travelling for days. He never looked put together, and he also knew he hadnt when hed first arrived. That knowledge had caused him to be surprised by the positive first impression hed garnered from his staff. It had been a trial by fire.

Vivienne embraced him back, without restraint. That embrace from his sister banished the darkness that had been chasing him for what felt like an age.

"Gods it's good to see you little sister."
