| Personal History | Kendra was born in 2365 on Chariklo (named after a daughter of Apollo in Earth's Greek literature), the only Earth Solar asteroid/minor planet with rings. Although it was discovered in the 21st century, it wasn't until the 23rd century that Starfleet build a large base in the interior of the 145-mile diameter solar body. It's considered a centaur, meaning it will probably not stay in it's stable orbit between Neptune and Uranus, but once Starfleet figured out that it would be at least 30,000 years before it began to come within 3 AU of Uranus, the go-ahead was given to place a starbase in the interior with a domed city over it. It was within the second domed city, Camilla (named after the first mission to photograph Chariklo), not over the starbase, that Kendra's parents worked in the mid 24th century, and she and her siblings were born and grew up. Since it is so far out from the sun, little natural light falls on the dwarf planet, but the domed cities manufacture their own day and night cycles. Impact events with Chariklo are rare, but three occurred during Kendra's childhood, giving her frights as the family crowded into safe cellars below the city, with 100,000 other inhabitants, and also intriguing her. In none of those events was there a catastrophic impact. As she grew up, Kendra developed a strong sense of right and wrong behavior, and a strong need to defend those who couldn't defend themselves. This led to her taking college classes at the Camillia State College, and then going to the police academy in the city, as well. After three years working as a policewoman in the city, she decided to see a bit of the universe. At first, Kendra worked as a security guard with freight convoys, but after a couple of years, she was restless again and applied for a civilian police position on several starbases in the Federation. She was offered a job on SB109, far out by the Romulan-Klingon borders and jumped at the chance. On her journey to SB109, she met a young man who was also a policeman headed for SB109. With shared goals, they became friends. |
