One of the things that Victor had not been expecting was to have a fully functional medical spa attached to one of the doctors he had jurisdiction over. A Lieutenant Redding owned it and profited from it but at the same time provided a final service that he could not find fault with. The need for therapies such as this was clear, and he'd found he had some displeasure in how Starfleet prioritized things like physical therapy. He didn't find any fault with the records they had in the system at this time, and he was more than a little pleased by the variety of therapeutic options they allowed him to prescribe. They (the spa therapists) submitted all of their reports for their various therapies in a separate section, which attached to the primary medical records of the people getting the therapy. The leisure side of the spa was different, and appeared to be completely separate from the medical side. He had been curious enough about the functionality of that, that he'd decided to walk down to the aforementioned spa.
It was absolutely breathtaking, even looking through the frosted glass at the cascading pools that visibly differed in temperature as they came down a hill that was built into the very wall.
"Can I help you sir? Do you have a reservation? "A lovely young woman with ebony hair from behind the counter asked before Victor had fully taken in all of the things around this particular venue.
"No reservation, though perhaps you can help me. I was looking for Dr Redding."
"Dr Redding is in the far back office. Shall I see if she can meet with you? What's the nature of the visit?
Her assistant was very good and he had to admit that her demeanor was charming even though she was getting in the way of his intended goal, which had been to explore the place until he found her. This was more expedient even if it was less fun. He licked his lips and smiled before turning an expressionless gaze to her and replying "please tell her that Dr. Delling, the new chief is here on an inspection tour.".
The girls eyes got huge, and she scampered away from the desk to personally deliver that message. Once again leaving Victor alone in the vast expanse of the spa. She was back in mere moments with the approval of the 'boss' to allow him entry and she would meet with him immediately.
Victor's eyes in turn got bigger and bigger each time they passed over some new wonder within the spa, as he was led towards what he could only assume was an office in the back. It blended in so seamlessly with the life around it, that he almost missed the door. It was part of a tiny wooded pergola that was nestled behind and off to one side of the Starfleet approved therapeutic rooms. They were neatly hidden behind the intricate network of pools served to keep the pleasure areas of the spa separate from the treatment areas of the spa. Treatment, he noted did not seem to be done in the main bay of the spa. It was a masterpiece of development, one that he himself was eager to explore. It seemed that the official therapy rooms, where massages and physical therapy were done lost none of the ambiance of the place. It was meticulous, and with the bead on the armband that he'd seen in a great bowl at the entrance of the place matching the end door color, he imagined that it aided in navigation so that no one missed their appointments.
The desk attendant, who was a lovely ebony haired beauty cleared her throat to regain his attention, and return him to motion on the path.
"My apologies. " Victor said softly, not even realizing that he'd stopped to stare.
She giggled and said "Don't worry sir. You're not the first to have that reaction to this place. "
"I can imagine not, how long did it take to build this? "
"Not as long as you might think, it was coming up with the plan between the two owners that pleased both of them was more of the problem. I think they still argue from time to time about seems and upgrades and expansion into the next bay over and you name it.
"Huh " was all he could say in response as she tapped on a small wooden door.
"Come in" called the female voice from within and immediately the assistant pulled open the door for him, vanishing back to her duties the moment the door closed.
Victor was left alone with who he could only imagine was Alexia Redding. The door actually tapped him on the backside as it finished closing and he took a step into the room.
The office was neat and well put together with the exception of the desk which had plans documents and pads strewn across it. Alexia looked up from what she was doing and Rose when she saw the color of uniform, and the rank of the person standing across from her. Chief she questioned
"Dr Victor Delling. Please call me Victor." He introduced himself with a smile in an outstretched hand.
She moved around the desk to clasp his hand and shake it while gesturing for him to take a seat "can I get you anything?
"I find myself wanting to sink into one of those pools and soak for an eternity. " he admitted with a smile.
Grinning at him she flicked a wristband his way. It arched through the air and he caught it with ease. The first visit is free, a perk that I set up for every person that lives here. After that though, all prices are reasonable. "
"I'm sure that they are. "
"You wound me Sir." She pressed her hand to her breast in a dramatic fashion. "I wouldn't dream of cheating people that really need my services. I still remember that I'm a doctor, even though I don't practice in the traditional fashion I do take my turn with the therapy patients. "
"When is many things I was going to ask you about, once we got into an official capacity of course.
Ask away, if you can figure out a way that we can make things more efficient here I'm game to hear it. As long as it doesn't take away from the aesthetic that I've been trying to build. There's at least one area in this place that encourages calm in the species that we are currently aware of on the station. There's an ice bath with artificial snow at the end of the blue path in the back for Andorians. There is a salt crystal heated cave for the Vulcans among us. The cascading pools start at a heated temperature slightly above what most humans can tolerate, then Cascade into larger pools for soaking and end in what's basically bathwater. I have a Risian mud bath in the bottom pools. I also have in development a couple of unique treatments that I've found on Earth. I like to think that Jaryl and I have thought of everything but we're always looking for new ways to have this place draw in the customers. "
"Jaryl that's your business partner correct?"
"He's my designer, architect, go getter, and all around building manager. He figured out how to make it work, from a sketch that I did at a resturant. He turned that into the initial designs and thence into a reality. We're a good team. "
"He is not one of my physicians is that correct? "
"No he's definitely not a doctor. He's an artist. "
"One can be both, but I'm glad I don't have to track down another person here. "
Alexia chuckled at that, seemingly unsurprised by his lack of drive to leave. "What is it exactly that you came to find out? "
"Well, I came to find out about the therapeutic side of things, the parts of your operation that are reportable to me. Physical and occupational therapy, massage therapy, actual injury recovery that sort of thing. "
So everything in this place is fully automated and integrated into the medical records. From the treatments that people seek for pleasure to the therapeutic side of things. Mostly it's just counts and numbers seeing what parts of the spa draw more activity, which places get more daily use. Most of that data gets disposed of as soon as we compile each day's activity log. But sometimes we notice patterns in people's behavior that indicate a latent injury, and that can be analyzed so that things can be suggested to clients.
"The clinical side of things each doctor or therapist dictates a report of the therapy they provide for each person which is then transcribed into their medical record so that a complete history of all therapies done can be available to the station physicians. We have our own records database for our clients, which is freely shared with the station medical database. Shall I make a file for you?
"Yes, I do believe that you should." If Victor had known about this perk of living here on the Starbase, he would have been much less apprehensive about the transfer when he received his orders. Now though, he was looking forward to his time here. Nothing was better than a hot soak, in his opinion.
"First one is free." she called after him, laughter in her voice as she watched him depart.
