725 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Unity Week
Location: Turbolift
Timeline: Between Missions

Thomas had spent the morning getting to know the place and sprucing his office up. Okay, so most of the time he was grumpy, but that didn't mean he didn't like a clean, tidy and homely office. He would have to buy some flowers, that always gave a homely feel to an office desk. And a picture...But of something he loved. He wasn't quite sure if it was acceptable to have a picture of whiskey bottle. He tried to shake the thought of alcohol out of his head, it was too early even for Thomas to drink. He let out a sigh to himself, and grabbed a PADD to see where he could get flowers from. Instantly the request gave him 'Scent of Love, Deck 635'. It even came up with a banner running across the PADD, which he thought was fairly unusual reading 'Recognized by the Federation News Network as being one of the hidden treasures of Starfleet bases in Federation Space.' Brilliant, that's the place for him to go. He didn't want a ridiculous amount of flowers though, just a small something.

He quickly stood up and exited his office to the turbo lift. As the doors opened, there was an Andorian male already in there. He was fairly average height with white short hair. Thomas walked into the lift, trying to avoid the gaze of the Andorian in the lift.

"Hello Lieutenant." Jekkar said with a polite time and a nod towards the Officers direction. "I'd recommend Garden of Eden for your flowers." The Andorian said without turning his attention from the Bulkhead in front of him.

"Morning," Thomas replied bluntly. He looked at his PADD and realised the request for his flowers was still showing, so he moved it so it could not be seen further. "I'm going to a place called Scent of Love? Ever been to that one?"

Jekkar shook his head. "I haven't but I have heard good reports about the Garden of Eden." The Commander chuckled.

"Well if the Scent of Love is no good, there is the plan B!" He let out a half smile. "I'm Lt. Maynard by the way, I'm the new Chief Intel Officer."

"Commander Solan Jekkar, Security Chief." He said with a smile and offered his hand.

Thomas shook it, making sure the formalities were done properly, "How long have you been aboard Vanguard?"

"Only a couple of weeks give or take a day or two." The Andorian commented to him. "I wasn't sure at first but this place is starting to grow on me ever so slowly."

"Mm, I will give it some time before I make any judgement on that. How have you found the CO and XO here?" He said, altering the subject.

"They are very well suited to their roles." Jekkar commented. "Both professionals when it comes to Station Business and both very obliging when it comes to personal situations."

"That's good to hear," He wasn't going to get anything from the rumor mill today then.

An awkward silence fell between the pair. Thomas tried not to make conversations flow too much, due to his nature of trying to avoid talking to people. During the silence, he continued to observe the Lieutenant Commander, trying to imagine what brought him to this station in particular. He thought best not to ask just yet, maybe another day.

The Commander noticed the observation. "Can I help you with something?"

"I was just wondering..." Thomas said. "What on do youdo around here for fun? Aside from all the security bits." He hadn't expected the Commander to pick up on his observation, but he plucked another question out to ask.

"I play the Cello, much like Lieutenant Michaels and I also read classics earth literature." The Andorian said As he observed the Human.

Thomas wasn't sure who Lt. Michaels but didn't ask, "I see. I quite often play a violin actually. Takes my mind off things."

"Agreed." Jekkar commented as the lift ground to a halt at his floor. "The Classical Music group plays on Wednesday night at 18:00 hours."

"Well it was nice to meet you Commander, and maybe I will pop along to the classical music group with my violin!"

"Excellent." Jekkar said with a smile and a nod as he exit d the Turbolift.

Interesting... is Jekkar a p-sychic?

Heh...Sometimes you have to be part psychic to be a security officer. :D

I'm glad Kellian has someone to pull him out of his shell a tad. The man has gone and rented himself a real cello so he can play with the group, instead of just using a holodeck one. Before you know it, he'll get dissatisfied with the quality and buy himself a serious real cello...

And then all hell will break loose... *innocent look*
