Mission: A Diplomatic Affair
Location: Orchids & Jazz, Deck 600
Timeline: MD 9, 1215

And now, since Jade has left the table, the conversation resumes ....

When Jade left, Kiara looked at Dallas again. "Tell me something about you," she said.

He shrugged his shoulders as he tried to find something to say, “Well, as you know, I was once married. I met Victoria at the academy. We waited until I graduated, and married right after. We never had children, too busy with the career. Typhoon was the only ship I’ve been on; it was home for a very long time, and we were both very happy.”

Dallas fell silent as he looked down at his hands. “I just feel so sad when I think or talk about the past. I was so in love with her, and a piece of me died that day.”

"She'll always have a piece of your heart," the diplomat said. "And perhaps, in time, you'll be able to share your heart with someone else."

“Perhaps.” Dallas said. “But that will be a long time from now.” He wasn’t sure if he could handle a relationship right now, even if Victoria approved.

The combo on the little stage switched to a slower moving medley after the foot-tapping opening, seguing from Stardust to Tenderly and finally into Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. Though each song was naturally slow, they added a touch of upbeat to keep things moving, and finished the medley with the very syncopated Old Black Magic. Glancing over at the table where Briggs and Lena sat, Lantz wondered how they would get along as time went on. The diplomat seemed very sensitive to others, and had a comforting mix of green and purple in her aura. She'd probably be good for the man who had lost his wife to violence. Pulling her attention back to her club, she moved on to chat with other regular customers, as well as those who had come for the first time.

Kiara sipped her lemonade, quite impressed with the flavor, and listened to the music. She loved dancing, but this was definitely not the time to ask the lieutenant for one, and it would be rude to walk off and find a partner. Next time, she promised herself, she would come alone, have a chat with the remarkable Jade, and perhaps find someone for a dance or two. "What do you like most about the station?" she asked him at last.

“I don’t know, I haven’t even had time to settle in yet.” He thought for a moment then grinned, “The Medical facility, they saved my life!” He laughed at his joke.

Kiara raised an eyebrow. "I can see why you have a fondness for Sickbay, but why does that make you laugh?"

Dallas shook his head, his humor must still be too dry. “That was a joke. I don’t like Sickbay at all, and I would do just about anything to stay out of there.” He frowned, “I guess my sense of humor need work.”

"At least in that instance," she admitted. Then she smiled. "So, we shall change the subject of our conversation? Your choice."

“Yes. What do you think about the station so far?” he asked, curious about what she thought.

"So far, I am impressed. It's like no other station I've been on," she said.

“It’s the only one I’ve been on, at least recently,” Briggs said, taking a drink from his glass.

"It's the first one I've been assigned to, but I've had the opportunity to visit a number," Kiara admitted. "And this one is unique. I think I'll like it here."

"It's definitely a huge difference from being on a Starship, I can attest to that." Dallas replied. One could get lost here without a computer.

Jenna came up with a helper and set a large plate in front of the lieutenant commander. Turning to her companion, she took a basket of warm bread and put that between the two diners. "One chicken special, plenty of black bread and butter on the side," she said.

It was far more food than Kiara could eat, but it looked delicious. She smiled at the waitress. "Thank you."

She took the second plate from the tray held by the girl. "One cheeseburger with lots of fries and lots of ketchup," Jenna grinned, placing an entire bottle next to his plate.

Noting their glasses were nearing empty, the server turned to Podkayne and said, "Please get lemonade and iced tea refills for our friends."

"Is there anything else I can get to enhance your experience here?" she asked the two of them, as the girl hurried to get more drinks.

"Not at the moment. Thank you," Kiara said. "Everything is lovely."

When they were again alone, the two remained silent while they ate. As promised, the food was delicious. Kiara ate more than she should. She finally sat back. "I'm going to regret that later."

“It was delicious food and we all tend to eat more than we should when it’s this good.” Dallas thought for a moment, “Would you like to walk it off for a bit and then come back and dance a song or two?”

She smiled. "I would like that very much. Perhaps we can have dessert, too."

"That sounds like a plan; shall we go?" he said. They had finished their meal and a nice walk on the promenade should settle their stomachs.

"Yes," she said. She put her napkin on her plate and stood. "I'm ready."

Dallas smiled, "Okay, then." He stood up and the two of them headed to the exit. He waved at the staff as they walked out.
